NYC shoegazers Hotline TNT share video for "Stump"
HOTLINE TNT RELEASES NEW VIDEO FOR "STUMP"
EU TOUR STARTS APRIL
"CARTWHEEL" OUT NOW ON THIRD MAN RECORDS
"On Cartwheel, surprises are around every corner: strange patches of ambient wash, an occasional burst of drum’n’bass. It’s that enticing mix of old and new that has earned the album a mountain of praise." - The Guardian, The Bands Saving Shoegaze
“Will Anderson amplifies everyday heartbreak with towering shoegaze and supersized power-pop anthems that demand to be played loud.” — Pitchfork, Best New Music
“Like all of the best shoegazers, New York’s Hotline TNT manage to keep a hint of pop in proceedings, even when they’re shooting for gigantic, looming walls of sound... they’re currently in the midst of their big breakthrough, signing to Jack White’s record label Third Man Records, and releasing one of 2023’s best rock albums, Cartwheel." - The Evening Standard, Ones To Watch 2024
"Cartwheel's washes of guitar are all-encompassing, rebounding off programmed drums that skitter and crunch. But where a straight-up shoegaze band might call it a day here, Anderson introduces intuitive hooks, spotlighting his vocals in a manner he hasn’t before." - NME
"Cartwheel is a gorgeous, warming embrace of defiance." - The Line Of Best Fit, 9/10
"The American shoegaze underground is in rude health and the New York outfit Hotline TNT are spearheading a surge of energy... an excellent record that ably blends pristine shoegaze tropes with rugged intelligence and some fine songwriting, ‘Cartwheel’ rips up the rulebook in gleeful fashion." - CLASH
"Hotline TNT bring something original to a familiar sound, this simply a match made in heaven for fans of Toner, Weed et al. let alone shoegaze fanatics." - So Young
Today, Hotline TNT — the New York based project fronted by Will Anderson — unveils a new video for 'Stump' off of their 2023 album, Cartwheel, out now on Third Man Records. Animated by Matt Carignan with sound design from Emil Bognar-Nasdor, the video cuts between footage of the band performing the track alongside the band on a farm, all framed as if the band is performing inside of a TV cartoon. According to Anderson, “This song came to be in just one afternoon when I was reflecting on a game of cards I played with my family in Minnesota. I’m glad we finally made a video for it because the man who seduced us all with the biggest Billboard smash of the 20th century (Rob Thomas) posted the track on his Instagram story and that was all I needed to know we made a hit.”

Cartwheel is the band's follow-up to Nineteen In Love, a record that's influence has spread through fervent word-of-mouth these last couple of years. Hotline TNT toured relentlessly, enduring seemingly endless lineup shifts to become a linchpin of several interconnecting DIY scenes. Their audience steadily ballooned, with Nineteen in Love becoming a coveted LP. Cartwheel, however, transcends those scene associations to become something greater—a classic encapsulation of youthful ardor, fading into adulthood’s grim acceptance. It is a beautiful, radical, and engrossing record about trying to find what most of us have not yet attained: fulfillment.

FURTHER INTERNATIONAL PRAISE FOR HOTLINE TNT & CARTWHEEL
“there is an overwhelming warmth to Hotline TNT’s Third Man Records debut. It’s a powerful, hook-heavy shoegaze experiment that pays off in surprising ways; even in the sheer magnitude of the album’s volume, there are washy detours that seem to crack these songs wide open.” — Consequence, 50 Best Albums of 2023
“Cartwheel finds the Brooklyn band more engaging than ever before, packed with massive hooks and moments of revelation that feel physical, like the euphoric vertigo of a mosh pit.” — Stereogum, The 50 Best Albums of 2023
“Cartwheel is a glowing achievement of what shoegaze is capable of.” — Paste, The 50 Best Albums of 2023
“Cartwheel, the exquisite new album from Hotline TNT, excels on atmosphere: through shoegaze bleariness and elliptical choruses, Will Anderson’s song construction is fully enveloping and impossible to ignore.” — Billboard
“Cartwheel, a glorious, astounding blend of shoegaze,’90s power pop, blown-out noise rock, and scuzzy grunge, seems to tap into the full spectrum of human emotion.” — The FADER
“Anderson crafts these recordings as big hugs, a calming aural thundershirt for the heartbroken and a fireworks display for those deep in romance.” — Brooklyn Vegan
“Simultaneously modern and nostalgic, a hard rocking band that you can lose yourself in, Hotline TNT have made a record that defies time and space.” — Exclaim!
“Other shoegaze bands use vocals merely as another textural touchpoint, but Anderson’s singing is clear and emotive, adding resonance to his lines of heartbreak, longing and unrequited love.” — SF Examiner
