"Meshing the best bits of hard rock and dark electro-pop, it also shines a light on the brains behind the project Rachel Trainor, or as we’ve dubbed her, Lana Del Rey’s evil twin" (Hysteria) [About 'Lowlight']

"Blending hard rock with otherworldly electronica, the track expands around an uncanny tangle of dense distorted guitar, alluring vocal hooks and undulating programmed beats." (Trouble Juice) [About 'Lowlight']

Nighteyes, the evocative solo project of New Zealand-born, Melbourne-based artist Rachel Trainor, is casting spells on audiences with her haunting new single 'Plenty' (out Friday, October 20). This mesmerizing composition sets the stage for her debut album, 'The Way Back Down', which is scheduled for release on November 10.

For the unacquainted, Nighteyes blurs musical lines, seamlessly weaving electronica with the ethereal resonance of doom-inspired guitars and vocals. Her sonic landscapes traverse the emotional spectrum, finding inspiration in the profound depths of human experience, the ever-shifting canvas of the skies, and her personal odyssey through the intricate tapestry of both the outer world and inner realms.

With a wealth of experience and artistic insight, Trainor, who unveiled this project in 2022, has showcased her talents across a diverse spectrum of musical, circus, and cabaret acts. Her captivating performances have graced international stages, solidifying her presence in the professional circuit.

Notably, Nighteyes' debut single 'Lowlight' and subsequent track 'In The Wake' have taken centre stage in the acclaimed contemporary circus production 'The Defiant'. In this enthralling showcase, Trainor stands as the sole musician, seamlessly intertwining drums, guitar, and vocals to provide a dynamic live soundtrack to the mesmerizing circus acts. The show has garnered immense acclaim, boasting two sold-out seasons at Adelaide Fringe, a standout presence at Melbourne's Midsumma 2022, and most recently, an electrifying performance at the CirkUff festival in the Czech Republic.

Now, her debut album, 'The Way Back Down' navigates themes of trauma, love, sorrow, environmental consciousness, connection, and transformation. As Trainor aptly states, "'The Way Back Down' is a journey through our collective unconscious, through realms unknown, the darkness and the light."

'Plenty', the lead single from 'The Way Back Down', serves as a poignant commentary on the pressing issues of human-driven climate change and societal progress. Opening with the melancholic strains of Trainor's graceful vocals, intertwined with steadily picked clean electric guitar, the track unfolds with a spacious electronic beat, gradually building energy. Live drums and bass join, intensifying the momentum before the haunting crescendo, where distorted electric guitars and resounding drums converge, forming a brooding wall of sound. The result is an evocative, sinister, and enigmatic composition that lingers, sending shivers down the spine.

With 'Plenty', Nighteyes confronts the harsh realities of our world, reminding us that we hold the destiny of our planet in our hands. It's a maudlin ode to our Mother Earth, a lament for what has been lost.

As the anticipation builds for Nighteyes' debut album 'The Way Back Down', the foreboding lead single 'Plenty', out everywhere now, sets the ominous tone.
