newshapes start new chapter with 'the rain'

Hot on the heels of a debut EP which drew over 800,000 streams and recognition from the likes of Daniel P Carter and Alyx Holcombe from BBC Radio 1, newshapes are today back and ready to kick start a new chapter with the brand-new single ‘the rain’ - a track that speaks to those struggling with who they wish they could be. ‘the rain’ is an infectious blend of post hardcore, metal and rock at full power, with ear burrowing melodies, glistening production and ferocious musicianship all on display.

Speaking about the new single newshapes vocalist Ian Mann comments, “the rain is the start of a new chapter. It discusses thoughts of suicide and self-loathing. ‘All said and done, I f***ing despise me’”. He continues to mention, “Framed as a conversation between two versions of myself: one idealistic version of who I believe I use to be and another that has fully embraced my own loneliness. My world and head are on fire and no matter what I put in place this made-up “perfect me” is helpless to stop it burning and begs for almost an act of god to step in: “the rain”.”

To celebrate the release of ‘the rain’, newshapes will join Lo Rays for a special co-headline show at Slay, Glasgow on 28th September 2024. newshapes will also be joining Wargasm on the Edinburgh date of their Club Shit tour in November. Full details below:

In newshapes’ first 2 years as a band, they have captivated the alternative music scene. Their debut EP ‘i hope this finds you’ (released in October 2023), led by enormous lead single ‘foreverend’; a track with a chorus that wouldn’t be misplaced if set amongst the anthems of 2010s emo and alternative royalty has steam rolled to over 800,000 + streams to-date, with the tracks collecting seven Spotify editorial placements (including All New Rock and All New Metal), and five plays on BBC Radio One’s Rock Show and Introducing Rock Show. The band’s early success led them to invigorating performances delivered on some of Glasgow’s biggest stages alongside the likes of Atreyu, The Blackout, The Nightmares and more.
