[PIAS] today release the soundtrack and score for Netflix’s new romantic comedy, “Love At First Sight”, starring Haley Lu Richardson, Ben Hardy, Jameela Jamil, Rob Delaney, and Sally Phillips. Directed by Vanessa Caswill and based on Jennifer E. Smith’s bestselling novel “The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight,” the soundtrack and original score for “Love At First Sight” are released in conjunction with the film’s streaming launch today on Netflix.
British singer-songwriter Morgan Harper Jones has contributed four tracks to the soundtrack, including original songs, “Lonely” and “Passing Ships” and poignant covers of “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” and “Video Killed The Radio Star.”
“I was so excited when the Love at First Sight guys wanted to put some of my music in the movie,” Morgan says. “It was even more mental when they came back and asked for me to write a song for it (“Passing Ships”) and cover “Video Killed The Radio Star”, one of my favourite songs of all time. It was one of the only songs I had bluetoothed to my Nokia when I was 11.”
The original score for “Love at First Sight” was written by British composer Paul Sanderson, whose credits include BAFTA nominated and ACADEMY AWARD shortlisted feature “Three Identical Strangers” Left Banks long running action TV show 'Strike Back' and Apple Tv's hit comedy series “Trying.”
“Love At First Sight is a warming, bittersweet, beautiful and emotional film,” Sanderson says. “When creating the score, the director Vanessa Caswill and myself knew the music needed to have a very organic feel in terms of instrumentation, sometimes holding back taking a more minimalist approach under the most emotional scenes and keeping the music raw and honest. For me, it was key to also capture the naivety and fragility in the performance of the music to marry with the 'on screen' performances of Haley Lu Richardson (Hadley) and Ben Hardy (Oliver). I combed very softly played upright piano, acoustic guitars, ukuleles, cello, vocals and various percussion with more modern synth elements to keep the score feeling contemporary but at the same time youthful. This ‘band’ like collection of instruments enabled a synergy between the score and songs that feature in the film.”
“Love At First Sight” is available to stream on Netflix today. Speaking to Glamour, director Vanessa Caswill says: “The script lifted my spirits. It’s fun, it’s playful, it’s heartwarming. It felt like really good medicine.”
After missing her flight from New York to London, Hadley (Haley Lu Richardson) meets Oliver (Ben Hardy) in a chance encounter at the airport that sparks an instant connection. A long night on the plane together passes in the blink of an eye but upon landing at Heathrow, the pair are separated and finding each other in the chaos seems impossible. Will fate intervene to transform these seat mates into soul mates?
