Imbued with a pervading warmth and a breezy, whistle buzz that aligns 90s sounds with a distinctly contemporary outlook, ‘Hotel Life’ is Mumble Tide at their most optimistic. Theirs is a fluid sound that mirrors the way their latest music has come together. Working with co-producer Ellie Mason (Voka Gentle) the duo “ended up living in a strangely nomadic way”, uprooting themselves every couple of months and moving between boats, Airbnbs, spare rooms and warehouses. Their recording set-up travelled with them as they sought out new inspiration in new spaces, and looked to capture what they felt during those specific moments in time. In ‘Hotel Life’, atop a joyous chorus and a great sense of freedom, that feeling is one of strength and hope.

Vocalist Gina Leonard comments: “‘Hotel Life’ is a song about relinquishing control. We wrote it after Ryan’s dad had a ‘funny turn’ whilst on a work trip in Reading and we rushed to pick him up from hospital and ended up staying the night in a weird corporate business hotel on the outskirts of the city. I think hotels can be quite confusing spaces…I like running away in my head to a kind of ‘hotel life’ where I can escape everyone and be completely in control of who I am. Ultimately though, that’s not healthy or possible. The song is overall positive and uplifting (I hope) - it’s about not giving up.”

In their single releases to date, Mumble Tide have proven themselves a group that never repeat themselves, always curious to uncover a new creative process through which to explore the range of human emotion. Their approach has won them admirers in media from the likes of BBC Radio 1, 6 Music, DIY, Dork, Gigwise, The Line of Best Fit + more, and seen them tour with artists including Divorce, JOHN, Liz Lawrence, Personal Trainer and Sleeper.

Look out for more from Mumble Tide through 2023.
