(10th June) Moon Tide Gallery - the brainchild of 23 year old Baltimore producer, singer and multi-instrumentalist Mason Gainer - today releases new EP 'Stop Looking at Me Like That', accompanied by the release of live from church versions of previous singles "Television" and "Venus Fly Trap".

Documenting an evolutionary phase for the project – no longer a solo endeavour – new EP 'Stop Looking At Me Like That' showcases a more musically mature Gainer exploring a more lush and intricate sound, with the addition of Baltimore-based producer notcharles (known for their work with Future Islands' Samuel T. Herring and Tiberius B) who also acted Gainer’s co-songwriter across the new EP.

Shedding further light on the creative process behind the new EP and working with notcharles, Mason Gainer said:

"When working on the EP, our primary focus was on crafting an immersive atmosphere. We approached each track with a folk-style foundation centered on vocals and acoustic guitar, and then built on it layer by layer. We incorporated recorded conversations, ambient audio, snippets of videos, and even environmental sounds like sirens and trains to create the overall effect.

Sonically this EP wasn’t really inspired by any specific bands or artists and more so surroundings and environment. I tried to capture things that I ignore and spit them back out in a way that feels comforting. Sampling/emulating things like sirens, bar conversations, screaming, etc.

A lot of it started off as really bare folk style songs that we then built a world of atmosphere and texture around that strayed so far from where it started that it sounded like a completely different song by the end.

Writing this EP felt like trying to write a bunch of songs while sitting inside of a slowly burning house. Lyrically, I tried to be as raw and vulnerable as possible."

Mason Gainer was born to do this. Consistently touring from the age of 14 (Gainer was previously the guitarist for a now-defunct band signed to Roadrunner Records), his grasp of atmosphere, emotion, tension, and release is inarguable.

To date, Gainer has released an intriguing catalogue of independent releases under the Moon Tide Gallery name, but with the official addition of notcharles to the outfit's line-up, new EP 'Stop Looking at Me Like That' signals a fascinating rebirth for the project.

Using the soundscape of Baltimore traffic, conversations on the street and the rough everyday background, Moon Tide Gallery's new EP documents hazy nights, lost loves and uncertain futures, from the perspective of a haunted protagonist who oscillates between searching for meaning and not being certain there’s anything to even find.

Moon Tide Gallery's new EP 'Stop Looking at Me Like That' is out now.
