Monk is an LA-based hardcore band incorporating moments of mindfulness into their pummelling blitz. Their first release consists of Frank Bach (Vicious Cycle, Designer at Headspace) on vocals, Daniel Romano (The Outfit, Ancient Shapes, Attack In Black etc.), Ian Romano (The Outfit, Career Suicide, Attack In Black, etc.) on guitar and drums respectively, and Scott Sorenson on synthesizers.
Inspired by the aggressive sounds of classics like 86 Mentality and Knife Fight and contemporaries like Gel and Bib, Monk sprinkles in wisdom, exploring themes such as impermanence and existentialism while encouraging the importance of being present and acknowledging both positive and negative emotions.
"Cool & Collected" celebrates the power of self-confidence and perseverance in the face of adversity. It's a song about overcoming challenges and staying calm yet resilient when the going gets tough. With a spiritual undertone conveyed through a synthesizer intro and references to the third eye, the track encourages listeners to deepen their self-awareness and focus on personal growth. While acknowledging the struggles and difficulties of the world, the song reminds us not to be overwhelmed by them and to stay centered. The chorus, featuring Daniel Romano's memorable vocals, is a true earworm that will have you humming along long after the song ends.
The video has a tongue-in-cheek climate change theme, with a polar bear as the main character. The video was filmed in South Central LA, with iconic backdrops of Leimert Park Village, Crenshaw Blvd. and the Pacific Ocean.
Monk's "Rock" EP will see a digital/vinyl release via Dine Alone Records on August 4th, 2023. The music video for "Cool & Collected" was produced by Monk and directed by L.A.-based videographer extraordinaire Jovanni Martinez (Motionless Creations). The forthcoming EP was recorded at Camera Varda & Headspace Studios. It was entirely produced by Monk and engineered by Ian Romano. Mixing & vocal production by Scott Sorenson and mastering by Monogram Sound.
