(4th June) Leeds-based Michael B Thomas has announced his new EP 'A New Dance' - out 30th August on Bam Bam Records. 'A New Dance' is the follow up to his widely-praised 2023 EP 'The Moment'.
Today, Thomas also releases new single "Skeleton On Strings (SOS)" and announces a string of live dates across the UK in June and July.
The second taste of upcoming EP 'A New Dance' (following previous single "Test Tube Baby"), new single "Skeleton On Strings (SOS)" was self-produced and recorded between drummer Lachlan Banner (Van Houten) and Thomas' bedrooms, before being mixed by Harry Jordan (Eades).
A captivating indie-folk tale of Thomas being ensnared by an unnamed puppet master ["My master creeps away, In the distance they fade"], delicate finger-picked guitars and bustling drums propel the story forward, with Thomas' velvet-smooth voice providing a bewitching counterpoint.
Speaking on the track's lyrical inspiration, Michael B Thomas said:
"Skeleton On Strings I think is subconsciously a song about looking after yourself. It’s an acceptance to understanding past manipulations and feeling like you’ve been exploited; played like a puppet so to speak. Like there is no winning and no trust to make your own decisions, be that by your own head or by someone else."
The project of Leeds based musician Thomas Barr - known for his work as keys player for Eades - Michael B Thomas deals in lyrically poignant slacker folk-rock. With influences ranging from Elliott Smith and Alex G to Wilco and Sparklehorse, his music deftly toes the line between intimacy and widescreen, breezy cinematic appeal.
Having recently brought his project to life on the live stage supporting acts including Chartreuse, Van Houten, Peter Martin and Anna Erhard, Thomas' live band boasts a veritable all star cast of local Leeds musicians - featuring members of Van Houten, Fizzy Blood, Fehlt and The Golden Age Of TV.
Thomas' 2023 debut EP 'The Moment' was praised by influential publications including The Line Of Best Fit, Whynow, La Blogotheque and Dork Magazine, highlighting its pristine folk rock arrangements, along with his endearing vocal delivery and colourful lyricism.
The project has also seen impressive Spotify support with 400,000 streams and key editorial playlist inclusions on melomania, Fresh Finds UK/IE, New Music Friday, pumpkin spice, Lo-Fi Indie, The Listening Post and more.
Michael B Thomas' new EP 'A New Dance' is out 30th August via Bam Bam Records. New single "Skeleton On Strings (SOS)" is out now. Michael B Thomas plays dates across the UK throughout June and July.
