Mary’s Lye Release New Single ‘Forever Girl’ and Announce Upcoming UK Gigs

Grunge/alt-rock trio Mary’s Lye are thrilled to announce the release of their new single, ‘Forever Girl’, which dropped on 21st September 2024. Hailing from the Midlands, the band has brought a fresh take on their signature grunge sound, blending it with a melodic twist they jokingly call "grunge pop."

Inspired by Leonard Cohen’s ‘That’s No Way to Say Goodbye’ and The Who’s ‘Glow Girl,’ ‘Forever Girl’ represents a subtle shift in Mary’s Lye’s usual direction. While maintaining their gritty roots, the track offers a more upbeat, melodic feel without sacrificing the raw energy that has become their trademark.

Michael Thompson, vocalist and guitarist, shares: “This song was a slight departure for us. It’s still very much Mary’s Lye, but there’s a brightness here that I think listeners will appreciate. We had fun experimenting with different sounds on this one.”

Following the release of ‘Forever Girl’, Mary’s Lye are gearing up for their upcoming album, which continues to explore the blues-inspired riffs found in their earlier EPs, ‘Matter of Medication’ and ‘What Happens in the Underparts’. The album was recorded at Load Street Studios and produced by Rob Groucutt, showcasing a refined yet unmistakably gritty sound.

Since their formation in late 2023, Mary’s Lye—comprising Michael Thompson (vocals/guitar), Harry Anson (drums), and Georgie Lane (bass guitar)—have gigged extensively across the Midlands, building a loyal following with their original music and energetic live shows. Notable performances have included their set at the Custom Rock and Blues Festival in Derby.
