"Sonically pleasing, lyrically clever, easily accessible, largely danceable and totally relatable. Recalling the best of such artists as Lowell, Chvrches, Kate Nash, St. Etienne and Dubstar" ~ Amplify Music Magazine

Hailing from Ealing, West London and born to British and Portuguese parents, Mari Dangerfield is a multi-talented and colourful alternative / electronic pop artist, producer, writer and musician with a knack for fragile songs bursting with originality. Music is Mari’s way of trying to make sense of life and her productions are characterised by rich vocal harmonies, catchy hooks and cinematic arrangements.

Dangerfield made her first appearance on the music scene after winning a Mute Records video competition in 2017, for which she covered Yann Tiersen’s song “Porz Goret", winning in the Best Non-Piano category. Releasing singles since 2018, Mari finally launched her debut album ‘Love And Other Machines’ in 2022. Already something of a polymath, she writes, records, arranges and produces all her own material as well as filming and editing her own video content. She’s also known for re-popularising the Stylophone, which features in her early singles and her live set.

A concept EP, ‘Eco-Fever’ explores the highs and lows of life in a climate crisis, through the sounds of the dance floor. Thematically, all songs make reference to the various issues relating to accelerated climate change; ‘Eco-Anxiety’ covers the mental burden of living through self-doubt and conscience; ‘Fashion Haul’ the huge problems of fashion overproduction, overconsumption, underpaid workers and waste; ‘Ruins’ uses melting ice caps and a collapsing building (much like one would find in flooding or fire situations, aggravated by climate change) as metaphors for a failing relationship; Eco-Fever, while being a joyous celebration of the world for all its beauty and wonder, is equally aware of its and humanity’s finite existence, and therefore our need to protect it from the threats it faces.

Mari explains…“the first song I wrote for the EP was ‘Eco-Anxiety.’ I wrote it around the same time as I was writing my first album, but it didn’t really fit into it. Eventually, I decided to come back to it and base my next project around it, which gave me the opportunity to really plan things out from the start. Then, after going through a difficult experience, I hit a creative wall. For months, the only song I could get out of me was ‘Ruins.’ It was as if I had to create that piece of work to get myself through the hurt I was feeling. Eventually, I was looking to wrap up the EP when suddenly, I was hit with a new streak of inspiration – I had yet to name the EP and remembered that it was a disco-inspired record. ‘Eco-Fever’ felt like the perfect name, recalling ‘Saturday Night Fever’ by the Bee-Gees, the rising temperatures that are characteristic of climate change and the growing discussions around it, the song turned out to be the touch of positivity the EP needed too.”

On the environmental theme, she continues ..”looking after our planet and the animals on it has been important to me my entire life. While the climate crisis is a much more complex issue than can be covered in a few songs, and I don’t believe endless preaching is the way to go, I hope that the EP might get some people thinking about the world and their place in it in a new way. My first record has been around for several years now, so I’m excited to share this new chapter and new side to myself.”
