Manchester's Sammy Lynne Releases New EP Man or Mouse & New Single 'Inhibitions'

“[The EP is] a beautifully crafted, emotionally raw take on tackling issues of mental health, toxic masculinity, and, ultimately, the relationships within yourself” - Xposed Polaroids

The new single, ‘Inhibitions’, is a more upbeat indie-pop affair, with Lynne wrestling with ideas of toxic masculinity in a postmodern society, culminating with a euphoric choral chant echoing the inner fear and frustration he has towards his own anxieties.

Sammy Lynne is a singer/songwriter based in Manchester, taking inspiration from the likes of Father John Misty, Scott Walker and Matt Maltese among others to create anxious baroque alt-pop.

Previously a member of South-London five-piece The Caress, Lynne’s debut EP, ‘Aimless 21st Birthday Balloon’, was released independently in April 2021. The collection of tracks analysed the peaks and troughs of modern life through a blend of orchestral pop and quintessentially British folk.

His follow-up single, ‘Stay In Touch’, was released in August 2021, and was a sonic departure, integrating a more retro-pop sound, backed by a drum machine and keys.

Following this, Lynne returned to the studio and set to work again with Sean Woodlock (Alexis Taylor, Comet Is Coming, John Coxon) and drafted in the help of Eddie AlShakarchi (Boy Azooga, Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard, Loathe) on his new EP, entitled ‘Man or Mouse’, which is scheduled for release on Tuesday 30th May.

The collection of tracks includes the previously released singles ‘Cold Feet' and ‘I’m Supposed To Do That’, both of which receiving praise and backing from Frankie Francis on Amazing Radio, and will also include four more original tracks, all written in isolation in 2020, acting as a meditation on Lynne’s own personal struggles with anxiety and identity in a postmodern age, while marking a definite step up in Lynne’s songwriting and cementing his status as one of Manchester’s strongest singer/songwriters.
