Manchester Solo Artist Jack Hyphen Returns With Driving New Single 'Lifetime'

Pre-Save

Born in the Midlands, now based in Manchester, Jack Hyphen is a singer-songwriter who fuses together alt-rock and indie-pop and just about everything in between. Rising out of the ashes of now defunct Herefordshire indie band Point Zero, Hyphen’s sound is atmospheric, punchy, at times ethereal, and altogether his own.

Though initially just a solo project releasing singles such as ‘Not Aligned’ which allowed Hyphen to showcase both his vocal and lyrical prowess, it soon became clear that he was destined for a much larger sound. As such, mid-2019 saw the solo effort expand to a four-piece before releasing  his debut EP Stops / Changes at the tail end of the year.

Of course, like most musicians, national lockdowns hit Hyphen hard, and the reality of surviving as a full-time performer, and funding future recordings looked almost impossible. Having stepped back from things, a bout of self-isolation drew Jack back in, spending that time writing and recording an EP which coincidently birthed some of his fans’ favourite numbers.

Now back with even more drive and determination, Hyphen returns with new single ‘Lifetime’. Two and half minutes of moody and atmospheric alt-rock, there’s echoes of artists like Dallas Green throughout.

"Lifetime is about the struggle of wanting to do the things you want to do, and you know you need to, but the pressure that is put on you, or you put on yourself, is stopping you from doing so" Hyphen explains.

"Everything but the vocals were completely finished about 2 years ago, but then I got covid and couldn't sing, then moved to Spain, then came back and got covid again. Glad I could finally finish the song"

It’s as well he did. Expertly blending the multitude of facets Hyphen harbours, Lifetime is a bold step up from one of Manchester’s most promising voices.
