Rebellion Festival + Leodis Requiem Festival + Further Live Dates Announced

Liverpool DIY punks Coughin’ Vicars are pleased to announce they have signed to Venn Records and will release their new album Curses & Prayers on 26th July 2024.

To celebrate the news the band are releasing lead single ‘Until The Feeling Turns Cold’ on 1st May 2024 on all good digital service providers.

The opening track from the album and an anthem for solar-challenged goths everywhere, ‘Until The Feeling Turns Cold’ is built around an upbeat melody and a New Romantic howl-to-action against the slumber of warmth-induced comfort and lethargy that comes with the summer months.

Commenting on the track, vocalist Roman Regal says: “The carpet can get pulled at any moment so we gotta try our best to thrive in the moment of inspiration. Everyone loves the summer and the heat but let’s face it—the days are long and nights unsettling, the concrete is dry and wheels roll free too easily. EasyJet envy burns, the insects irritate, and the urge for another can turns into another midsummer moon. We're most productive in the colder climates. Kicking against the conformity of hibernation, CV get stuff done while the masses wait with wide screen tvs. The B-side to this song could also be called 'strike while the iron’s hot'. Rough seas make wise sailors, or something like that…”

Born from a desire to make androgynous songs amongst a macho musical landscape, the band are indebted to years of service as reluctant protagonists in the city's loudest back rooms, with members previously appearing in the lines ups of Napalm Death, SSS, Cold Ones, Salem Rages and more. The appeal for Vicars was forming a new guard who struggled with books, yet devoured their pages with an almighty gaze; a gang of side-stage students; mosh-pit mutants.

Two years in the making in-between honing their live chops and creeping up the bill alongside the likes of Bo Ningen, Glitterer, Tokky Horror, Serious Sam Barrett, Bruise Control, and more, the album was conceived and constructed in the draughty, bare-brick local institution of dockside rehearsal rooms Vulcan Studios.

Produced by the band’s own Adam Clarkson (guitar) in Vagrant Studios, Southport during Oct/Nov 2023, the album was mixed by Coughin’ Vicars and mastered by Piers Mortimer (Robert Fripp, Creedence Clearwater), featuring composer/saxophonist Daniel Thorne (Erased Tapes) on ‘The Reach’.

The band’s 2022 Ritual Discipline 12” LP was first issued as two self-released Lockdown Tapes (Jan/Oct 2020) under a different lineup, pressed and released in the US by longterm friend Jamie Barrier (The Pine Hill Haints) and his Arkam Records imprint.

The Vicars cemented their current line up with synth player Gabriella on Local Lockdown Heritage Hits featuring covers of Soft Cell (Southport), Mansun (Chestser), Pink Military (Liverpool) and more, introducing her vocals for the first time on 2022 standalone single 'Possession of Fire'.

Further live dates and new music will be revealed over the coming weeks.

Brothers and Sisters of Tomorrow LISTEN UP ...and listen up good. The mettle of your crown will bring you to the sounds of Zenarchist Magnetists COUGHIN' VICARS!

Prophecies of A New Realm reverberate, and protagonists calmly wait—destruction of tight-knit boundaries is the aim of this game. Rising free, dressed black, our United Mutations march to the future, flying the freedom flag of Anti-Faction. Rips of rain punish the pavement these disciples walk upon, hard freeze upon their jeans... could this ever be worth it? A voyager speaks: "Until the feeling turns cold" - and it never will, for Lo…

...And Behold! Clouds clear and a Summer Sun's frail ray illuminates the way - Liverpool warehouse dry / Irish Sea endless sky / Dublin nights / Brooklyn Heights / San Francisco sorrow / Knowhere tomorrow. True sound of liberty! Or true sound of lost? Is this comic debris or cosmic slop?

Vehicle passing gives the splash/soak phase... lower the gaze, don't look at it man - 137 is the Police Patrol Van. Repeat, repeat, repeat... yet again, Stop-And-Search "one cuff fits all" philosophy for all... Security Dogs and Feral Cats - which is witch within these acts? Thief of joy? Oh boy... Hardcore Petrichor fills the air.

<<< In this space spare a thought for those before, those now, and those to follow that will share this journey >>>

Infection spontaneity of cobbled streets with pubs to meet is alchemy hard to resist. Under the volcano mentality kicks out, another drink sinks in... Black Stuff / Jet Fuel / Junk Food and then into the ether. Strike a match for the Doomsday Lottery - magical number: 23. Along the velvet trail to the rotten row, balance redefined: Zero. WHO CARES? Last but not least - these are travellers from night to light! Rewind, get back to work and reverse the wound! Check it Zedd, a riot lies ahead - dig THAT daddy-o!

In the hypnagogic static slump of dawn they act ...navigating with instinct over precision - energy as currency and compass. From grapes of wrath at Roscoe Knight (the crossroad where years go and Swallows fly, and drifting generations on a Georgian descent pass by) to the ritual of the savage at Ancient Chapel, Toxteth. No coincidence - this is The Reach!

Fire and fury will mark the time between this fine-line of ragged Human refraction and Rock & Rolling Interzonal action - and that, pals, IS A FACT! Whether you are A Winner / A Sinner / A Strobe-Light Beginner... come to the VICARS!

After all, it's not the cough that will carry you off—it's the COUGHIN' they carry you off in.
