LIVE REVIEW & GALLERY: The Lambrineez @ The Brickmakers, Norwich
21st October 2022
Support from Dynamite and Dinosaurs
I love Dynamite & Dinosaurs, it's the second time I've seen them and they are just so damn entertaining! They're high energy with massive danceability and lyrics that don't take themselves too seriously. Their animated stage presence can't help but raise a smile, capturing all their facial expressions is probably the most fun I've had since taking up live music photography. This band is completely infectious and be it live or recorded never fail to make me feel happy!
There was a song about how demoralised singer "Bud Thunder" was working in an ice cream factory with the booming line "work is bollocks". There was another track that Bud confessed he'd started writing at the age of 16 and didnāt finish until he was 46 and of course there was the anthem that is 'Part Man, Part Llama' that has yet again been stuck both in my head and on my heavy rotation playlist since I saw their set!
Dynamite and Dinosaurs seamlessly infuse rock and roll sounds with raucous punk vocals. Their set pours with charisma and you can tell they're having the time of their lives. I need to catch them at their own headline show rather than a festival or support slot as half an hour of these guys just leaves me wanting more!
Now for The Lambrineez! First off I think it's an interesting concept having an originalās band support a covers band, but it definitely worked as a nice contrast to the main event!
So! I've gotta be a bit careful in this review because singer Baz is my mate and a fellow Ipswich fan! The Lambrineez are interesting, outside the box and a bit different. Essentially they're a very good punk band covering all your favourite "Girl Power" hits with varying degrees of success! Some tracks worked very well, some not so good and others they just forgot the words entirely!
The Lambrineez, whoās tag line is "Girl Power with Balls" are not afraid to push their luck and their clichĆ©d "lads lads lads" on stage demeanor is most definitely not for any ranging feminists. If you watch it for what it is, a bunch of middle aged blokes dicking about, having fun and butchering some songs it's an incredibly entertaining show that is granted to make you laugh. Their set spanned the 80's through to present day including Spice Girls, Britney, Little Mix and so many more me and my limited pop knowledge didn't recognise! Thereās certain to be a guilty pleasure song for everyone to indulge in!
The lads themselves are very talented musicians and Baz is a great frontman and punk singer with loads of energy and cheeky, mischievous stage presence. I'd like to have heard some originals or even a more true punk cover in keeping with the female theme, maybe Hole, Bikini Kill or The Donna's. Would be fun to see what the boys can do with songs within their genre.
Overall, it was a fun set (they played for 2 hours I only saw one due to rural buses) that was in no means perfect, there was plenty of chaos, mistakes, carnage and innuendo that's definitely not for the snowflake generation but the crowd were enjoying themselves. There was plenty of singing and stomping which is what the drinking masses want from their Friday night entertainment so I'd say The Lambrineez first gig in years was a success.
Baz was telling me they'd only rehearsed 3 times prior to the show, my advice is practice a bit more then you might all remember the words to 'Kids in America'!
