Leeds-born, London-Based Shoegazers The Mad Mile share debut EP “Skyliner”

BIOGRAPHY

Having worked together on other projects over the years, (notably, seminal math rock band General Admin) Adam Pickering and Matthew Goodbody formed the Mad Mile to explore their mutual love for post-rock and shoegaze.

The Mad Mile refers to the colloquial name given to the road which ran between where Adam and Matt lived as children. While they live in London, the grew up in Leeds. This shared backstory has influenced the tonal palate of their writing. Detachment and isolation from the places and people of their youth informs a mood of melancholia, anxiety and claustrophobia and the cold, wet, post industrial landscape of the North of England.

The Mad Mile's first offering to the world is a complex, richly textured and dreamlike exploration of the drivers of anxiety and rage in the modern world. The tempo is slow and brooding but the beats hit hard. Vocal lines are memorable and melodic but are set against angular guitars and keys. Influences are varied but share the same unsettled mood. You'll hear shoegaze in the vein of Just Mustard, the slowcore post-rock vibes of True Widow, the angular trip-hop catchieness of Portishead and the broken post-punk melody of Joy Division.

Produced n a state of manic creation, Skyliner was written, recorded, mixed and mastered within the space of a month. All songs were produced by the band and mastered by Mark Roberts (Toska, The Physics House Band).
