Katie Reid Releases New Single 'Clouds'
Katie Reid returns with her newest melancholy indie single ‘Clouds’, out now.
Katie Reid is a Scottish/Australian indie singer/songwriter and a hidden wonder of Sydney’s Inner West. She got her start in music by providing backing vocals for legends like Guy Sebastian, Christine Anu, and Perth rapper Drapht. Since then, she’s woven strong ties with other Australian bands, performing on the tours of Joan & the Giants, PEPTALK, and Little Quirks. She also caught attention in The Great Southern Song Competition for her song ‘Healing’, earning first place. In October 2024, she released her indie rock breakup anthem ‘6 Feet Under’, celebrating with a sold-out single launch at Butcher’s Brew Bar.
Katie’s new single ‘Clouds’ is a pensive piece of soft indie pop. Its understated, warm guitar introduction melts into something more complex with soft percussion and swelling strings. Katie’s voice strikes a balance between dreamy and mournful as it moves through her anxieties about relocating to a new city after a breakup.
This song was created on a plane journey from Perth to Sydney, exploring the fear of the unknown and the pressures of trying to please those around you. The weight of her pain underpins the track, giving it an addictive bittersweet aftertaste.
Katie shares the story behind the song:
"‘Clouds’ started as a poem I wrote on a plane as I was flying over the Great Australian Bight. I looked out of the window and saw the ocean and clouds and felt overwhelmed with fear of moving from one place to another, but also a strange calmness. I wrote about not allowing myself to stay still, reflect, or be present with the people closest to me. When I settled into my new life in Sydney, I started writing music to my little plane poem.”
