SELECT PRAISE FOR WANDERING REBEL ALBUM:
Really intentionally crafted music…funny, observant, relaxing, ephemeral, and forces you to slow down and be present with it. - NPR All Songs Considered
Most introspective album to date. - Pitchfork
For a singer who once operated in the lowest of fi, Wandering Rebel is his most lavish production yet, but his innocent worldview and offbeat charm, reminiscent of Jonathan Richman, remain Wauters' greatest assets. - BrooklynVegan
….well-crafted set of psych-tinged folk-pop inflected with various Latin styles, hip hop and more, featuring a warm, sometimes playful sound combining guitars, keyboards and occasional strings, vibraphone and other instrumentation with bilingual lyrics and wistful melodies. - KEXP
A quietly influential indie artist with ramshackle recordings that cast a wide net across an ocean of music history, Juan Wauters keeps the spark alive on his latest album. - FADER
Fresh off the release of his introspective sixth record Wandering Rebel, Juan Wauters returns with Limbo, a collection of homespun bonus tracks. Written during an extended break from touring in the wake of the COVID - 19 shutdown, Wandering Rebel was full of candid reflections on topics both personal and societal: songs like “Nube Negra'' explore self - image and escapism, while “Modus Operandi” decries the fairweather New Yorkers who fled the city during the lockdown. With Limbo, Wauters invites listeners to examine these reflections a bit closer. Listen to the EP here.
This past month, Juan toured throughout the EU/EK with notable shows in London, Spain, Paris, and more.
The other tracks on Limbo are thoughtful reinterpretations of key tracks from Wandering Rebel. A lively, full band version of “Mensaje Codificado” offers an upbeat take on one of the album’s most pensive tracks. Elsewhere, English versions of “Milanesa al Pan” and “Nube Negra” and a Spanish version of “Modus Operandi '' offer Wauters’ multilingual fanbase a new opportunity to consider his poignant lyricism.
