Johnny Barr releases "Break the Fall" EP

Johnny Barr is a Paisley-based singer/songwriter and recently qualified music therapist. Johnny’s unique combination of percussive guitar technique and intricate finger picking makes him an exciting act to watch, especially when paired with his effortlessly exhilarating stage presence. Johnny has been featured on Radio 1’s BBC Introducing Scotland and has supported acts such as The Staves, Lianne La Havas, Admiral Fallow, Mick Flannery, and Sucioperro. He has also headlined Glasgow’s King Tuts Wah Wah Hut and appeared at the venue’s New Year’s Revolution festival.

In addition to his solo work, Johnny has been part of an exciting 6-piece Folk/Pop Singer/Songwriter Collective known as Winter Springs! (www.facebook.com/winterspringsmusic). Formed while studying at Leeds College of Music, the collective features outstanding artists from across the UK. Since their first tour, Winter Springs have shared festival line-ups with artists including Fleetwood Mac, The Black Keys, First Aid Kit, Hozier, Catfish and the Bottlemen, James Bay, Orla Gartland, Lucinda Williams, José González, Nick Mulvey, Graham Nash, Josh Record, and JP Cooper.

Johnny recently rebranded and returned to the Scottish music scene in 2023, inspired by his experiences in music therapy. His single 'Forgive & Forget,' released on Friday 27th September 2024, quickly gained attention, becoming a featured track on Jim Gellatly's Amazing Radio showcase and earning a place among ten songs selected for the Scottish Alternative Music Awards (SAMA's) September music roundup playlist.

His latest self-titled EP, featuring the lead single 'Break the Fall,' was released on Friday 28th March. The track highlights Johnny’s alt-rock style with folk influences and acoustic-led songwriting, and features the phenomenal Calum Ingram on electric cello.

Johnny aims to build upon the success of his numerous well-received shows, both solo and with Winter Springs. Watch this space!
