Today, Jeremie Albino — the newest Easy Eye Sound signee who has toured with artists like Orville Peck and Sierra Ferrell — has released the latest taste of his forthcoming LP, Our Time In The Sun (out Nov 1 via Easy Eye Sound) with new single, ‘I Don't Mind Waiting’. On this timelessly golden-voiced ode to a lover, Albino deftly recalls musical giants like Otis Redding and Sam Cooke behind his top-notch, ten-piece band.

“I wrote ‘I Don’t Mind Waiting’ with Dan Auerbach and Pat McLaughlin,” says Jeremie on today’s single. “The early acoustic demos left a lot of room for the song to grow, and when we got into the studio, the groove the band started playing was so good; Malcolm holding down the beat, Tommy Brenneck laying down the bass groove.

“When Dan started playing those bumps on rhythm guitar, it all came together so nicely. The start of the song, when the band comes in, reminded me of the Charmels ‘As Long As I’ve Got You,’ or ‘C.R.E.A.M.’ by Wu-Tang Clan. I thought it would fit perfectly as the song to open up the album. ‘I Don’t Mind Waiting’ is a classic song of love and longing, holding onto a love that might be a hopeless case, but you just can’t help yourself but hold on to it, hoping all the promises will one day come true.”

Our Time In The Sun is the culmination of a remarkable journey, one that began on a farm in rural Ontario. After years slinging veggies at a farmers markets in Toronto, Albino began busking on the city’s streets and beyond, spending years busking throughout Europe, trading songs for lodging. The back and forth between him and the many fleeting crowds sparked a love of performing, one that he channeled into electrifying live shows — shows that steadily grew from passerby to packed rooms. As for Auerbach, he produced this new collection after a chance encounter with Albino’s music online that left him mesmerised: “It was a dream. His voice was amazing. I instantly loved his style and charisma — I didn’t know it could just be so real.”

Packaging the energy of Albino’s live show into a record is a feat: but with Auerbach’s guidance and assists from some of Nashville’s finest songwriter-musicians — including Pat McLaughlin (John Prine, Johnny Cash), Joe Allen (Aaron Frazer, John Anderson ) and Bobby Wood (Marcus King, Dusty Springfield) — Albino has honed his rock’n’roll sensibilities into sharp, observant songwriting, defined by clever turns of phrase and the emotional nuance of the stories he’s telling. Between Stax era gospel-funk, Southern psychedelia, and the blues-rock of the 60s lie tales of love gone sour, struggling with the bottle, and a life defined by work.
