Jade Hairpins return today with a double helping from Get Me the Good Stuff, dropping the album’s absurdist opener “Let It Be Me” along with the stunning “My Feet On Your Ground,” which is accompanied by a Mike Haliechuk-directed visualizer.

“Let It Be Me” is a quintessential Hairpins song, a 90-second raver that sets the table for the rest of Get Me the Good Stuff, eagerly stacking sounds on top of one another as if to distract from the doubt and anxiety plaguing the figure at the center of the song. “It was written with complete absurdity in mind,” Jonah Falco explains, “and was supposed to be describing an ‘invisible friend’ but developed into a song about physically fighting what one perceives to be their own shortcomings.”

Falco describes “My Feet On Your Ground” as the result of his and Haliechuk’s “chasing down the style” of Talking Heads’ “The Great Curve.” It is an intricate demonstration of the pair’s approach to their influences, bending the core idea around Chic-inspired guitars and the monotone vocal delivery of a Madchester smash. It’s a thrilling act of synthesis that breaks open into an exuberant saxophone solo by Falco’s mother, Jane Fair.

Before the 13th September release of Get Me the Good Stuff, Jade Hairpins will embark on a brief tour of the UK and EU. Later this fall, they’ll join Chubby and the Gang for an extended tour of the continent. Tickets are on sale now!

On Get Me the Good Stuff, Jade Hairpins waste no time fulfilling their second album’s titular demand. From its harmony-drenched opening note to its baroque-anthemic conclusion, Get Me the Good Stuff is positively loaded with musical ideas, an absurdist buffet of sound and aesthetic that comes with one hell of a floorshow as the Hairpins stack those ideas higher and higher, almost daring them to crash to the floor. Instead, those elements—punksploitation, power pop, baggy, funk, and Italo disco are just some touchstones—are not only held aloft, they defy gravity and convention.

These pyrotechnics are, in true Jade Hairpins fashion, something of a sleight of hand. While the music swaggers and gallops, Get Me the Good Stuff grapples with anxiety and self-doubt, obfuscating pain and alienation with sparkling wit and some straight-up ravers.
