Dublin/London post-punk quartet Scattered Ashes are pleased to announce a run of February 2024 UK tour dates supporting fellow Irish iconoclast Meryl Streek.
Beginning on 16th February at Canvas 2, Manchester and finishing on 29th February at The George Tavern, London, tickets for the 8 date tour are on sale now, with full listings available below.
To celebrate the news, the band are sharing their recently-released 2023 single ‘Battles’ which chronicles the dire consequences of addiction.
Recorded at Darklands Audio, produced by Glen Brady (D.A.R.K.) and mastered by Simon Francis, ‘Battles’ is a sombre meditation on despair and fragility in a finite world, as well as man’s capacity for change. ‘A story of sorrow, a story of shame, broken and hollow, can’t remember my name…’ The chorus is a double-entendre referring to both the Good Samaritan in the song, as well as the ghost of addiction itself: ‘But you follow me, follow me, you follow me, follow me down…’
Of the track, vocalist Robert Dalton says: “Lost in the throes of addiction, you begin to shed your own humanity, becoming a slave to both desire and the chaos that accompanies it. Redemption can seem further and further away as you become unrecognisable even to yourself. Despite this, the song puts a spotlight on ‘the Good Samaritan’ who refuses to leave the narrator’s side despite the trail of destruction in their wake. The song casts a rather acute spotlight on the shame associated with addiction and the long road to recovery, hence the battles ahead referred to in the title. It has been an issue for the band within the past, but one that bound us together in a lot of ways.”
Recently relocated from Dublin to London, Scattered Ashes are an abrasive and angular Irish post-punk four-piece defined by urgent guitars and prophetic vocals, occupying a noticeably darker lane than many of their contemporaries. After forming in early 2020, the band received immediate support and airplay from Steve Lamacq (BBC Radio 6) and KEXP upon the release of debut single 'Love Is Not An Option’.
The Parallel Lines EP followed on blood red vinyl, which sold out in its first week in Rough Trade stores throughout the UK. 2022 opened up with the band listed as one of the Hot Press ‘Hot for 2022’ and saw the release of ‘Feral’ to much critical acclaim landing on major Spotify official playlists such as All New Punk, The Punk List and All New Rock, with the band since picking up wider support at radio from SiriusXM, Today FM, BBC Radio Ulster, Amazing Radio, RTE2FM, RT2XFM and more.
In 2023 they played some of their biggest shows to date across the UK and EU supporting the likes of She Past Away, The Chameleons, She Wants Revenge and Clan Of Xymox, as well as making appearances at Ireland's Beyond The Pale and Electric Picnic Festival.
Standalone singles ‘Battles’, ‘Homeowners’ (recorded with Gilla Band’s own Daniel Fox at Sonic Studios Dublin), and ‘Take Another Piece’ followed throughout the year, with the band now gearing up for the release of their first full body of work in 2024.
