Introducing ‘Knives’ - the debut single by Sekinue

An otherworldly alternative folk song.

With their immersive harp dreamscapes and raw, dark lyricism, Sekinue creates a unique experience that invites us in. Come and be drawn into the world of Knives...

For Fans Of: Elliott Smith, Skullcrusher, Joanna Newsom, Sufjan Stevens

Esme (aka Sekinue) on making Knives: “When Nick (Night House) and Ellie Ford approached me about recording a single, I jumped at the opportunity. Recording a song in a studio was definitely a leap into the unknown for me, but I couldn't have been paired with a better duo. Ellie’s expert harp knowledge combined with Nick’s flare for arrangement brought my music to life in a way I’d never heard before. My first iteration of Knives was recorded in one take, in a bathroom, by aspiring producer Ehkoplex Sound. I wanted to keep this innate rawness and honesty in the studio version, and it definitely paid off.”

About Sekinue

Harpist, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, Sekinue isn’t afraid to explore the struggles of everyday existence. The fantastical swirling harp and haunting lyricism bridge a gap between poetry and ballad.

Sekinue's live performances present an extraordinary sense of musical intimacy, inviting their listeners into a state of bliss over the harp sound. They turn even the simplest of sequences into a whirl of emotion, inciting a rare form of musical honesty that cannot be missed. Notable supports include Moon Panda, My Octopus Mind and Fred Hills.

Knives will be released on 22 July 2023 with a live show at The Folklore Rooms, Brighton. Please contact esmeanderson@live.co.uk to request a press pass.

“Sekinue takes the elegant singer-songwriter paradigm, eats it whole and lures listeners into a shadowy forest of masterful harp melodies. Their unflinching lyricism is bold yet candid, confronting the urgency of their distinctive blend of contradictions: tender yet unyielding, pensive yet abrupt. Courageously themselves, Sekinue and their music are a vital revolt against artistic conformity.” – Oliver Daffarn, Blue Dot Studios
