Introducing Debbie Sings [Glitchpop / Country / EDM]

DEBBIE SINGS
Shares new cut ‘Wish Upon A Star’
Released 13th April 2023 on Big Oil

The latest single from Debbie Sings, AKA Danish Pop Producer Sophia Hage, ‘Wish Upon A Star’ presents a bombastic, bittersweet ode to the transient joys of ‘splash the cash’ hedonism. Overwhelmed and depressed by feelings of directionless futures, where wishes never seem to come true, our singer says "fuck it", discards tomorrow and lives only for today; drinks are on her tonight as she kicks away her worries like a can down the road.

"This is a song about not having any dreams you wish to come true when you look to the stars (or see a shooting star). To feel hopeless, sort of depressed. This can inspire a ‘fuck it’-feeling - lemme spend all my money and enjoy life as long as it lasts!”

An absorbing genre mash-up of EDM, Country and glitchpop,  ‘Wish Upon A Star’ incorporates familiar elements from each while bringing the listener to strange, new and enthralling places; cavernous beats buzzsawed by twangy country rock riffs; auto-tuned vocals sparring with acoustic guitars. Employing the romanticisms of the Wild West used to illustrate the yearning lows of modern living, in the world of Debbie Sings - cowboys rock their stetsons in the club under the raging lights, lasso their tequila shots from the bar, and ravenously hit up all the casinos.

Hage’s first single of 2023 showcases the skilful blends and variations of style and genre inherent in her music. ‘Wish Upon A Star’ is at once a far-cry from the hyper-pop sugar-rush of last year’s ‘Godspeed’ or ‘F My Tears Away’, yet still belonging to that same euphoric-yet-broken pop landscape. Ever looking forward towards new horizons, who knows where Debbie Sings will end up next?
