South London alt-rock newcomers Dead Air are pleased to reveal their new single ‘Violently Blue’, set for release on 1st November 2024.
The track is the first taste of a larger body of work set for release in 2025, with further details to be revealed over the coming months.
‘Violently Blue’ was born during Dead Air’s sessions from Squarehead Studios, Kent. After writing relentlessly morning till night (even camping out on blow up mattresses, sleeping on the studio floor), the London three piece wrestled their powerful new masterpiece into shape.
Thunderous drumming combined with a sombre, descending chromatic chord pattern create a melancholic, cinematic soundscape, adding fervour to the lyrics “You’ve got a soul like mine / Blacker than black, bluer than blue”.
Commenting on the track, front man Reuben Moonasar says: “The single explores the idea of two beaten and broken souls who are plagued by circumstance. As one half unravels, so does the other, revealing the fragility of their new bond in the shadow of inescapable prior trauma”. The outro ‘A different place / A different time’ acknowledges how their bond could have been salvaged, if they only had the luxury of different circumstances.”
Already causing an early stir on the live circuit with their arrestingly fresh brand of alt-rock, Dead Air have been quietly grinding across the UK, perfecting their performance and craft, and are now poised to show the world just how raucous a re-energised Gen Z strain of alternative rock music can be.
Drawing influence from a shared love of melodic, heavy, riff-driven rock (think Queens of The Stone Age, meets Deftones, Rage Against The Machine and Red Hot Chilli Peppers) the three piece have the fundamentals of the genre down pat, topped off with powerhouse vocal hooks that together create the uniquely 'Dead Air' sound, not to mention an attitude and live show that is pure, unbridled, cathartic energy.
Already quickly breaking away from the pack driven by the success of 2022 debut EP, City Sins—whose lead single and only music video to date, 'Teeth Grinder' racked up over 600K organic views and 12K subscribers on YouTube—Dead Air have so far been supported by BBC Radio 1, Kerrang! Radio, and Planet Rock, and have played Isle of White Festival, Decolonise Festival and toured with Himalayas.
With further new material on the horizon for the new year, Dead Air are now poised and armed to capitalise on their initial success and showcase how powerful and world-beating UK rock music can be.
In the band’s own words: F*ck sh*t up. Die.
