MAGNETIC SKIES

‘SUFFOCATE’

POWERFUL SYNTHPOP SINGLE OUT 2ND JUNE

“A striking aural experience whose retro sheen and gorgeous heartache will stay with you.”

(PopMatters)

“Euphoric, dreamy synthpop…brilliantly unique”

(When The Horn Blows)

“Music to dream by, to love by and to lose yourself in”

(Blitzed)

Following their euphoric previous single ‘You Shine On’, London synthpop band Magnetic Skies dial up the tension on their new release ‘Suffocate’, out 2nd June.

Set to be released via independent label ReprinT Records, the track captures a dark and fervid energy, with a sense of everything crashing down around your ears. Lead singer Simon Kent’s vocals stand out among the soundscape, as desperation and longing creeps in. And be sure to watch the accompanying music video, a striking yet simple black and white setting that matches the track’s intense atmosphere.

‘The song is about a relationship that breaks down. At the start, everything is incredible and you throw yourself head-first into that and nothing else matters, you just want this dream to come true. Then things change, reality sets in and everything around that falls apart to devastating effect. We wanted a dark, agitated, claustrophobic video – devoid of colour – to complement the emotions in the song.’ – Magnetic Skies

Formed in 2019 with a shared love of 80s synth-driven post-punk by Simon Kent (vocals & keyboards) and Jo Womar (keyboards), Magnetic Skies spent most of that first year locked away in studios, experimenting with material that would evolve into songs released over a set of EPs during 2020. “Dreams And Memories”, “Hold On” and “Into Paradise” all set the tone and showcased the duo’s skill and love of pulsing, vintage analogue synths and pumping bass. 2021 saw the band evolve into a 4-piece, with the recruitment of guitarist Carlos Aguilar and drummer Lenin Alegria. Both are featured on the new recordings, adding a new sonic dimension to the songs.

2022 saw the band supporting sell-out shows for Altered Images, Heaven 17 and ACTORS, as well as releasing five more singles – including a collaboration with BBC 6Music favourites The KVB, resulting in more than 1,000 plays on Amazing Radio in the UK & USA. Three songs were also included on the BBC Radio “Fresh On The Net” mixtape playlists. The band are included on two new compilations of influential electronic artists from around the globe, “Concrete And Chrome” and “Generation Blitz Extended”.

Magnetic Skies' debut album, “Empire Falling”, is set for release in autumn 2023.
