“Scandinasian-Pop” Newcomer’s New EP Proud
Released 19th April 2024 via Nordic Music Society

Danish/Japanese “Scandinasian-pop” newcomer IDA KUDO is delighted to kick off the new year with her new conservation-focused single ‘Let’s Rewild The World’, released on 17th January 2024.

The track is the latest to be taken from her forthcoming new EP Proud, set for release on 19th April 2024 via Nordic Music Society.

Consumerism, pacifying comfort, and the underlying pressures of modern society are some of the critical points KUDO tackles on the new track, as she sings: ‘We control and tame for profit, gain, modern life. Will conformity silence me 'til I die? Dangerous comfort…’

A celebration of musical genres, ranging from beat-heavy verses to disco-esque choruses, the new single offers attitude, distortion, and swagger as well as a bright, snappy, pop vocal and a surprising continuation of the tradition of protest song.

“It seems to me the Western world is losing track of its own identity as we’re neglecting the importance of the deep values we stand upon,” says KUDO. “The 'wild' element in us; our conscience and inner freedom, is numbed and tamed by comfort and materialism in a modern society standardising us instead of teaching us how to listen to our inner voice."

Continuing the reveal of her new material, KUDO kicked off the EP campaign late last year with lead single 'The Power That Is Woman', inviting the listener into an alluring pop universe filled with catchy songs, quirky sentiments, and powerful statements. With one eye firmly trained on the power structures that underpin our society, the track saw KUDO proposing that it's time for a new kind of leadership, putting people before profit.

It’s a message that clearly resonated with listeners at radio, picking up multiple plays from Craig Charles on BBC 6music, John Kennedy at Radio X, and also being playlisted on Denmark’s national P6 BEAT radio, with further plays from Amazing Radio, Islington Radio, Total Rock, Germany’s FRITZ, and more.

IDA KUDO’s forthcoming EP Proud is a collaboration between the Danish-Japanese artist (graduate of the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen and BIMM in London), and award-winning British record producer Andrew Hunt (MPG Award for Breakthrough Producer Of The Year), mastered by Stuart Hawkes (Ed Sheeran, Stormzy, Charli XCX), with the five tracks across the EP revolving around empowering messages and socially critical topics.

Further details of the EP and live dates will be revealed over the coming months.

Drawing inspiration from her ethnic roots, together with producer Andrew Hunt, Kudo has created a unique Scandinavian-Asian sound that embraces hip-hop attitude, a dash of ‘50s orchestration, and chanting tribal choirs, always with her impeccable lead vocal front and centre. Her music is vibrant yet subtle, with a feminine power akin to artists such as St. Vincent, Fiona Apple, and Kimbra.

"We wanted to create something new,” says producer Andrew Hunt. “Sophisticated and credible, yet still pop. The songs are recorded with a musical depth and we worked hard at the songwriting; lyrics with something to say, verses that allowed complexity, balanced with choruses so catchy they’ll stick in your head all day."

IDA KUDO has already made a name for herself internationally with her debut IDA KUDO EP, and her follow up Gold EP, along with several standalone singles. She has supported Sting in Austria, and played at Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg, plus JAJAJA in Berlin and London.

Other London gigs include The Lexington, The Old Blue Last, The Paper Dress Vintage and Sofar Sounds. She’s performed at XpoNorth in Scotland, Welcome to the Village in the Netherlands, as well as SPOT, Distortion and Pride in Denmark.

Her music has been played on BBC Introducing, on Danish national radio P6 and she’s had airplay in Germany and France. She’s been featured in GAFFA, Clash Magazine, Kaltblut Magazine and Ja Ja Ja Music amongst others. In addition, her previous releases; ’Gold', 'Jinx' and 'Wolf' have been used in several TV series, including Netflix's 'Selling Sunsets' and in major international campaigns for Starbucks, Victoria's Secret, Facebook, Riott Games and Audi, among others.
