Dublin risers Hotgirl announce the arrival of their ‘Blast Off’ EP, out today (April 10th) via Cartoon Records.
Comprising of lead singles including ‘On The Brink’, ‘In Your Head’ and ‘Sisyphus’, Hotgirl are already attracting plenty of fanfare throughout the indie landscape, with key champions such as DIY, Dork, The Line Of Best Fit, Clash, Paste, Rough Trade, Louder and Under The Radar all throwing their support behind the band, in the midst of what has become a busy 2025 live schedule.
With the band now firmly established as one of the standout acts in Ireland’s thrilling emerging scene, the quartet are set to build on previous supports with Sprints, Pillow Queens, Fat Dog, Lambrini Girls and Cliffords with further enticing shows alongside acts including Mannequin Pussy and Gurriers lined up for the coming months, in addition to a London headliner later this month (April 23rd, The George Tavern).
Marshalled by enigmatic frontwoman Ashley Abbedeen, and ably supported by the angular lead guitar lines of Sophie Boxwell, the booming breakbeats of Nick Stanley and the low-end thump of Jake Hurley (Local Boy), Hotgirl and their full soundscape of noisy, melodic dissonance are certainly primed to take full advantage of their EP release, having collaborated with esteemed producer Neil Kennedy (Milk Teeth, Creeper) on their latest material.
Detailing their EP, Abbedeen explained: “The making of this EP solidified the band as a collective writing force, as the first EP was written primarily by me. It came about at a time when I was going through quite a transitory period in my life; going through a tumultuous break up, having no job, and dealing with the remnants of past traumas as I transitioned into adult life. Without realising, I put a lot of the feelings that came with that into my music; asking myself what lies ahead, and if I should fear that, processing difficult emotions ,and finally accepting and moving on. I also talk a lot about my last relationship within the songs, which has been a cathartic process to help let go. We recorded the songs with Neil Kennedy at The Ranch Production House, and it was such a nice experience to dedicate time to work on the songs with an exceptionally talented producer, who understood our sound and transformed it into a sleeker, sexier production.”
Hotgirl’s ‘Blast Off’ (EP) is out now via Cartoon Records and available on all digital platforms.
