Helsinki trio VIRTA release video for "Aelita"

New album "Horros" out now via Svart Records

Earlier this month, Finnish sonic voyagers VIRTA have released their highly anticipated new album "Horros" via Svart Records. The album comes on the heels of recent single releases "Sola", "Sininen" and "Tunneli".

To celebrate the release, the band have shared a new video for the track Aelita, directed by Appu Jasu. The intense album opener sees the band combining deep atmospheric electronics, horns, and vocals with an idiosyncratic percussion section. It's a subtle yet dynamically complex intro to the album. Coming in at just over six minutes, the track doesn't feel drawn out thanks to the bands keen mind for experimentation and borderless progression through various styles and motifs. It's a consummate example of what listeners can expect from the album as a whole.

Speaking on the video, the band says, "Aelita is one of the most magical songs on the new album, so it felt natural to add a visual layer to the music. Like our previous video for the track Tunneli, the new video is directed by Appu Jasu, who came up with these beautiful, cinematic visuals. The darkness of autumn makes for a perfect time for watching this video."

The band will be playing one of the first live shows after the album release at the renowned Iceland Airwaves festival in Reykjavik on November 4th.

The Helsinki-based trio VIRTA are known for immersive live shows and the extraordinary electroacoustic music they create. The way the band mixes ambient electronica into nordic jazz, post-rock and psychedelia is something quite unique. VIRTA, founded in 2011 by childhood friends Erik Fräki, Antti Hevosmaa and Heikki Selamo have released two critically acclaimed albums "Tales from the Deep Waters" (Tourist Information, 2012) and "Hurmos" (Svart Records, 2016).

After being in a state of metamorphosis for the past seven years, the trio is about to release their hotly anticipated third album "Horros". VIRTA build on and take the questing, jazz-tinged adventures of their last album into new terrain. Still recognisable as who they were, the VIRTA of 2023 now delves further than ever before into their inner world to craft their most affecting, most atmospheric and cinematic music to date.
