Helen Townsend drops “Demons” & announces release of new album "Take It or Leave It"
Fremantle-based Americana artist, Helen Townsend, has dropped a new single, “Demons”, lifted from her forthcoming album, Take It or Leave It, which is now available for pre-save on digital and pre-order on CD, slated for release on Friday, 2 August.
Take It or Leave It takes listeners on a compelling journey through themes of love, struggle, and resilience. The album seamlessly blends personal stories with universal emotions, creating a resonant and rich musical tapestry. It features the WAM Awards Song of the Year nominee “Is This Love” and the Cinefest Film Festival's Best Black & White Clip winner, “Battlefield”, along with Townsend’s recent singles, “Melbourne Streets” and “Baby Come Home”. Take It or Leave It showcases an array of upbeat honky-tonk tunes and reflective ballads, serving as a testament to hope, strength, and the enduring spirit that keeps us moving forward.
“Demons”, the fifth single from the highly anticipated 11-track record, highlights yet another facet to Townsend’s songwriting prowess. The hauntingly powerful alt country track is about battling with addiction, characterized by a moody, introspective vibe and a dynamic shift from tension to resolution.
Speaking about the song, Townsend says, “Demons is a plea to someone very close to me, as I watched him struggle and create chaos in his world. This song expresses my desperate desire to rescue him and keep him safe from his inner demons.”
Townsend will launch the album with a run of tour dates in NSW, WA and Victoria, with a mix of free and ticketed shows, commencing in Sydney on August 1st at Shady Pines Saloon in Darlinghurst and winding up at The Lomond Hotel, in Brunswick. Take It or Leave It was recorded at Rada Studios and produced by Helen Townsend, Dan Carroll, Ben Franz, Phil Richardson and Shannon Smith.
