Guernsey rockers Coastal Fire Dept. share new single ‘Crank’ - out today!
‘Crank’ is a soaring catchy post-grunge/altrock track set in today’s (almost) post COVID world. It’s about folks who think they’re always ill with every little cold, cough, headache, something serious etc.
Ollie got the lyrical idea after reflecting on how he sometimes feels when he faces mental and physical health headwinds from colds to coughs to herniated discs and tinnitus!
The layered guitars and choruses build up throughout ‘Crank’ to end in a crescendo of an outro. Sing, shout, air drum or air guitar along ‘Craaaannnnk’!
There were absolutely no musical reference points when in the studio. This is how Coastal Fire Dept. sounds & gives more of an insight into where their musical journey is going. ‘Crank’ is the lead single from their EP ‘Flood The Saltpans…Save The Vale’ out on 30 Jan.
Influenced by US bands such as Nirvana, Balance & Composure, Title Fight & Teenage Wrist the band took those vibes into the studio. A song hugely influenced by US bands recorded by a British band cranking their sound up!
Band Bio
Formed in 2013 in the Vale, Guernsey, Coastal Fire Dept. serves as a throwback to the heady days of 90s alt rock & grunge guitar bands with a modern twist & other influences thrown in from time to time. CFD is all about big driving melodic guitars with catchy choruses that stick in your head.
The band is guitarist/vocalist Ollie Goddard, bassist Saad Frihmat & drummer Ozzy Austin.
CFD released their last album "Outsiders" in 2023 & followed this up with a string of singles starting in October 2023. The EP ‘Flood The Saltpans…Save The Vale’ will be released in January 2024.
Sonically, CFD are moving to a slightly harder, looser, punkier sound but still very much in catchy grunge territory.
Often compared to Nirvana & Pixies, the band is unashamedly influenced by those iconic bands, but are also influenced by later bands such as Violent Soho, Superheaven, Balance And Composure & Title Fight.
