Greywind return with cathartic new single ‘Antidote’

Irish emo-rock brother and sister duo Greywind (Steph and Paul O’Sullivan) have returned with their first single proper in two years, marking somewhat of a rebirth following a frustrating spin through the metaphorical wringer of the music industry. ‘Antidote’ is an unforgiving blast of anthemic emotion; a biting dose of catharsis using the familiar lure of revenge as creative fuel. The track delves into the band’s darkest conflicting thoughts whilst also delivering their largest pop-driven chorus to date. Jointly produced by Sam Guaiana (Neck Deep, Silverstein, Like Pacific) and The Wonder Years guitarist Casey Cavaliere and mastered by Mike Kalajian (Saosin, New Found Glory, Circa Survive), it is but a taste of what’s to come from Greywind.

Greywind’s debut album ‘Afterthoughts’ was released in 2017 but things didn’t go to plan at all with the formative years of their band seeing the two struggling to navigate the juxtaposition of some remarkable highs and traumatic lows, as well as the major label system. Ultimately, though, Greywind today wouldn’t change a thing. After all, we’re the sum of our experiences, and had they not gone through all of that, their new songs wouldn’t exist. “‘Antidote’ is full of all our rage,” says vocalist Steph. “We’ve always treated everyone with respect and kindness, but we saw so little of that in return. Really, these songs are a reminder to ourselves and to people listening that only you can save yourself. You can be in a dark place, and you can have all the support in the world—and I did, from Paul—but [sometimes] you’re the only one that can get yourself out of a toxic feedback loop.”

When confronted by the isolation of a global pandemic, Greywind found themselves once again struggling mentally and emotionally to decide on the best path forward. As a result, they swore they wouldn’t put out another note of new music until they had the rights to their major-label-released debut album 'Afterthoughts' back. Now, after a lengthy struggle, and a 2023 viral surge that saw multiple songs off ‘Afterthoughts’ reaching millions of new fans globally, they’re more than ready to usher in a new era of their career.
