Not As I EP out now

“George FitzGerald continues his form as one of the UK’s most dynamic electronic acts.” Evening Standard
“Not As I solidified (George’s) position at the forefront of British electronic music.” Notion
“New song ‘Mother’ is a beatific introduction, with the opaque electronics utilising subtle layers of sound… the results speak for themselves.” Clash

Following the release of his acclaimed new EP Not As I and the announcement that he will be one of Rinse’s new residents this Autumn/Winter, today George FitzGerald releases a remix of “Passed Tense” by legendary American record producer, DJ Shadow.

A master of genre experimentation, exploring everything from drum and bass to funk, from hip-hop to techno, Joshua Paul Davies, aka DJ Shadow, has been a major figurehead of the underground electronic scene since the release of his critically acclaimed first full-length album Endtroducing….. in 1996. Hot on the heels of the release of his new album Action Adventure, his remix of “Passed Tense” is laced with an intricate, pulsating bass line and mesmerising synths. Creating a call and response effect with the unmistakable vocals of psychedelic pioneer Panda Bear, it is the sound of a master at work.

“DJ Shadow’s music has soundtracked so many different phases of my life, so getting to hear him reimagine “Passed Tense” is quite surreal and wonderful,” says George. “I was very proud to work with Panda Bear on the original, so I’m glad this track got the remix it deserved.”

Originally featured on George’s 2022 album Stellar Drifting, “Passed Tense” was one of the album’s indisputable feel-good moments; simultaneously rhythmic, delicate and energetic. A BBC Radio 6 B playlisted single, the track was also hailed across the board with Clash noting how it “play(ed) with light and shade (taking George’s) club-rooted electronic innovation into a melodic, pop-centred sphere.”

George FitzGerald is a singular voice in electronic music, uniting underground dancefloor progressivism with pop’s cutting edges for over a decade. Following the release of 2015’s debut album Fading Love and 2018’s breakthrough album All That Must Be, last year’s Stellar Drifting, featured tracks with Panda Bear, London Grammar and SOAK, and artwork created by the celebrated designer David Rudnick. The campaign concluded with a sold-out UK and European tour in October.
