Freyja Elsy’s debut EP ‘MODERN ARTIFICE’ explores love, betrayal, bitterness and empowerment

After three years independently releasing singles and exploring live performance in 2023, Freyja Elsy has put together her first EP ‘Modern Artifice’ - released Friday 24th November. The record takes the grace, depth and introspection of her previous releases and perfects the formula whilst continuing an experimental streak with an impressive step forward in production. Themes range from navigating inequality and existentialism to finding oneself in the nervous excitement of new love.

Freyja Elsy is a classically trained musician, composer and self-taught electro-pop producer from Cardiff, drawing comparisons to Massive Attack, AURORA and Imogen Heap. Songwriting since her early teens, she then delved into the world of production from 2020 and has since released three singles (‘Lungs’, ‘Requiem’ and ‘Golden Hour’) that have received acclaim from the BBC (6Music/Radio Wales) & Freshonthenet alongside international blogs and radio.

Bethan Elfyn on BBC 6Music said of Freyja: “A very accomplished musician, composer, producer … talent abound''. Circuit Sweet called Elsy: “A classic composer on all levels with an understanding of connection within their creations.” and on debut single ‘Lungs’ the BBC’s Adam Walton said: “This gave me goosebumps that haven’t subsided since I first heard it … off-the-scale evocative”.

The single ‘Over It’ is released on Friday 17th November and the EP ‘Modern Artifice’ releases on Friday 24th November, both across all streaming platforms and Bandcamp.
