(6th November) Franco-English singer-songwriter Frenchie writes music with pure, honest emotion at its core. Moving with a rare beauty and assuredness, her music traverses soul, jazz and alternative R&B, always delivered with a poised, timeless pop sensibility.
Today, the London based talent announces her self-titled debut album 'Frenchie', due for release 28th March 2025. With the announcement comes a glistening, jazz-flecked new single "Love Reservoir," featuring vocals London based Swede Frida Touray.
Drawing from the groove-based rhythms and harmonic complexity of SAULT, Frenchie's new single "Love Reservoir" addresses a desire to replenish the emotional stocks of relationship, pulling things back from the brink: "I want to find a way to bring us back / When we lose sight in the good in us".
Featuring the soulful, sultry vocals of Frida Touray, elastic bass lines dance between jagged, jazzy percussion, wispy keys and ethereal brushes of harp, complete with a captivating verse of French spoken word from Frenchie herself in its bridge section.
Speaking more on the release of the new single, Frenchie said:
"Love Reservoir lyrically explores the theme of seeking to refuel and revitalise a relationship's emotional reservoir, symbolising a desire to overcome challenges and nurture love and connection. Femi and I wrote the song together - and I knew I wanted my talented friend Frida Touray to feature on the track. When she came down to record her vocals, the song was elevated to a whole new level."
Produced by one of the UK's leading jazz lights Femi Temowo - who has worked as a producer, guitarist, arranger and composer for Amy Winehouse, SAULT and Gregory Porter, for her debut album, Frenchie assembled a veritable all star cast of some of UK jazz's most talented musicians and vocalists.
Throughout the album, there are contributions from keys player Luke Smith (known for this work with Corinne Bailey Rae, Chaka Khan), drums courtesy of KOKOROKO drummer Ayo Salawu, backing vocals from friends and frequent collaborators Hohnen Ford, Friday Touray, along with further instrumental and production contributions from Aaron Taylor, Alex Maydew, Chris Hyson, Jas Kayser, amongst others.
Drawing inspiration from acts such as Cleo Sol, Lauryn Hill, Camille and Khruangbin – as well as 60s/70s artists Minnie Riperton, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Wonder, Carole King, Bob Dylan, and The Meters - under previous name The Naked Eye - Frenchie received plaudits and support from sources including COLORS, The Line of Best Fit, CLASH Magazine as well as BBC 6 Music's Jamz Supernova, Jazz FM, Reprezent Radio, BBC London, and BBC Introducing. Frenchie is also a member of female artist and producer collective Her Songs.
Frenchie's self-titled debut album 'Frenchie' is out 28th March 2025. New single "Love Reservoir" ft. Frida Touray is out now.
