Forlorn sign to Church Road Records
UK Folk Horror outfit Forlorn have announced they’ve signed to Church Road Records and mark their arrival at the new label home by unveiling their Stephen King inspired single, ‘Spirit’.
Talking on their signing to Church Road Records, Forlorn vocalist Megan Jenkins shares, “We are elated to join the roster of Church Road. An incredibly forward-thinking and ethically-minded record label, it is and has been the home of many artists we deeply admire. We welcome them into our inner circle and now look to our future with them and the horrors to come.”
Much like their previous ‘Earth’ inspired offering, Creatress, Forlorn’s first single on their new label, Church Road Records, is based on the fifth element of the same name.
“Feeling a connection between a bass synth in the instrumental of the song and the literal transformation one being makes into another, I took inspiration from the Stephen King novel ‘The Outsider’ and the concept of shape-shifting,” explains vocalist Megan Jenkins. “There is so much that we cannot see and don’t connect to when we are caught up in the haze of our daily lives. There are forces, energies and beings that are all around us that we are blind to, and many people are OK with that. I connect so deeply to this idea of shape-shifting or “becoming other” through a desire to explore the unseen and travel beyond the confines of this human skin.”
Formed in late 2019, FORLORN blend expressionist art, crushing soundscapes and paganism to carve out their own brand of 'Folk Horror'. The juxtaposition of ethereal vocals and haunting soundscapes with chaotic drums and crushing low-level guitars, paired with Megan’s brutal screams, bring together Forlorn’s unique sound and visual identity.
In 2023 Forlorn released the single, 'The Weight Of It All’, which has since garnered over 180k streams on Spotify and was featured in Metal Hammer’s ‘Best metal songs of 2023’, as they stated FORLORN as “a band that we should all be keeping a very close eye on”. Since their inception Forlorn have been championed by major streaming, press and radio tastemakers, leading them to national radio plays on both BBC Radio 1 and Kerrang! Radio.
Their haunting live presence has graced stages across the UK, alongside artists like Dying Wish, DESTRAGE, CRYPTA and North Atlas, festivals like at Radar Festival, Tech Fest and Collision Festival.
