ANNOUNCE WORLDWIDE SIGNING WITH [PIAS] RECORDINGS

PRAISE FOR FLOODLIGHTS

“[Floodlights] drew some of the biggest crowds of any Australian group at [Reeperbahn Festival]. Testament to their natural charisma and strong dynamic as a performance unit, Floodlights were quick to become a buzzed about band.”

Rolling Stone

“Here is a band in a classic Australian tradition: Melbourne four-piece Floodlights are deadly serious, politically engaged and not afraid to rock out.”

The Guardian

“On their second album [Painting of My Time], the Melbourne quartet take their place among the ranks of the country’s most unflinching truth-tellers.”

NME (4*)

Naarm/Melbourne band Floodlights make their awaited return with a new single, ‘Can You Feel It’. Launching into a new era, the band also announce their worldwide signing with [PIAS] Recordings.

Urgent guitar strokes atop a marching drum beat and Louis Parsons’ commanding vocals summon the explosive return of Floodlights on ‘Can You Feel It’. Produced by Dan Luscombe (Courtney Barnett, Amyl and the Sniffers) and mixed by Grammy Award-winning John Congleton, the track signals a band in full form, breaking down the door towards a new direction with a definitive sound. Dipped in their signature Australiana rock sound, ‘Can You Feel It’ explores themes of growth, the challenges and struggles behind self-discovery, and mixed feelings on the verge of an unknown.

The band say, “‘Can You Feel It’ began as an idea in Naarm/Melbourne and was shaped into a song in London. The lyrics were written in a quick burst, in one of those moments where words pour out - releasing a bottled up feeling of anticipation, excitement and fear - an act of catharsis, much like the song itself. It quickly became a key element of our live set as we toured the UK/EU over three months in 2023.”

The release pairs with an abstract music video, mirroring the track’s poetic musings on the universal quest for meaning. Directed by Ava Clifforth (@avavavavava) and Henry Gosper (@henrygotspleez), the visual paints a story of tension, anticipation and catharsis, ending with the cataclysmic acceptance that beyond “the edge of nothing”, boundless potential awaits.

On the announcement of the band’s new label signing, Mari Stuart, Label Group Director at [PIAS] Australia, says: “We’re so excited to welcome Floodlights to the [PIAS] family. Floodlights are one of those rare bands that you can’t help but fall in love with on first listen, and are up there as one of Australia’s greatest live acts. Our local label team have all been massive fans of Floodlights for a while now and we can’t wait to share their incredible music with the world through [PIAS]’s global network.”
