90s-inspired alt rock band Felicette have released their debut EP ‘Go To Hell’ via Everything Sucks Music, both digitally and on the suitably apt format of cassette tape. Featuring four tracks inspired by both personal encounters and modern-day issues, the release is a bold first collection from the band, who are named after the first cat in space.

Vocalist and guitarist Sophie MacKenzie says of new single ‘Palpitations’, which features on the release and has already enjoyed play on the likes of BBC 6Music, “We gave something of a vague challenge to ourselves writing this EP in that we wanted to write songs that generally weren’t in 4/4, (and it ended up that none of them were!) but in this case the time signature is something of a poor joke in itself, being in 7 it’s literally skipping a beat… Really it’s about the feeling of impending doom that accompanies the anxiety of thinking you have no direction –  that the future is hurtling towards you at lightspeed and you are climbing under the covers to try and avoid it.”

Forged in the UK DIY scene with members also playing / having played in bands like Supermilk, Cheerbleederz, Matagot, Doe and Painter, Felicette are based between London and the South West. The band’s debut single ‘Go To Hell’ was released last month and is brimming with the kind of attitude-fired melodies and catharsis that fuelled icons like Juliana Hatfield, the Breeders, Throwing Muses, Sleeper, Elastica and Veruca Salt. The track found itself in the Kerrang! Chart and LOUD WOMEN said “We are so on board.”

Elsewhere on the release, the band address disgraced average white men in power who claim to be victimised and cancelled, when in reality they have never faced any real consequences for their damaging actions, and remain in power (‘Small Man Big Ideas’).

This is an EP that captures the essence of the '90s with Felicette’s raw, energetic sound, punchy guitars and bright melodic hooks and harmonies shining throughout. It’s the culmination of the band’s passion for music and a nod to the pioneers that came before them, human and feline alike.
