Newcastle Indie-Punks’ Debut Album Sunny Blunts Out Now via Sangre Rapida

Newcastle indie-punks FAST BLOOD are pleased to share the video for their new single ‘Sunny Blunts’, which is released 26th September 2024.

The single is the title track from their acclaimed debut album Sunny Blunts which was released earlier this year and is out now via Sangre Rapida.

Alongside the news, the band are pleased to announce a short run of support dates with Benefits and Canadian punks Fucked Up on their October 2024 UK dates, as well as being one of the first acts revealed for Manchester Punk Festival 2025 (see below for listings).

As the dust begins to settle on the release of Fast Blood’s debut LP and its first two singles ‘Sexual Healing’ and ‘Salvation’, the band have now given the album’s eponymous closing track the single treatment.

Adopting a far more introspective tone than their usual aggressive, frenetic barrage, the track begins with an eerie, gentle guitar refrain, over which vocalist Abigail Barlow dials down her usual venom and allows the beauty of her voice to soar. The song feels like a very deliberate change of gear from a band evidently keen to avoid pigeon-holes.

Commenting on the single, the band said: “This is a deeply personal song, taking in a variety of themes such as nostalgia, youth, anger, resentment and pride. The track builds in momentum through its verses until reaching its anthemic crescendo.”

Recorded and mixed by Chris McManus at Blank Studios, Newcastle Upon Tyne, and mastered by Will Killingsworth (ORCHID, AMPERE) at Dead Air Studios in Western Massachusetts, USA, Sunny Blunts is an absolutely colossal sounding slice of modern punk.

Hefty and soulful, complex but hook-laden, abrasive and thoughtful, the album is by far the band’s most ambitious achievement to date—a richly diverse collection of songs, all distinctive, commanding, and impactful in their own way.

Released earlier this year, the album picked up acclaim from legendary DIY punk fanzine Razorcake, Louder Than War, and NARC Magazine, plus alternative music tastemakers at Punktastic, Noizze, Distorted Sound, Scene Point Blank, The Punk Site, Maximum Volume, and BBC introducing North East.

More info:
FAST BLOOD have been making a name for themselves in the DIY punk scene in the North East of England since 2019 with their relentless, bereft-of-f*cks, sonic barrage. Since their first appearance opening for fellow North East legends Martha at the release party for their album Love Keeps Kicking, they’ve shared the stage with very fine company in the form of Mannequin Pussy, Pegboy and Toxic Reasons.

Frequently compared to Descendents, Hot Snakes, White Lung and Pretty Girls Make Graves, an unholy amalgamation of those bands would probably not be far off from their true sound—fast-paced, energetic punk rock with a nod to 90’s midwestern indie/emo, hardcore, and garage punk.

Barlow’s vocals are uplifting and infectious as she bellows honest, authentic, self-examining lyrics—from the overtly political to the deeply personal—in her proud North-East accent, and the band’s phenomenal rhythm section is driven by seasoned drummer Dave Allen, who has spent many years pulling shifts in celebrated hardcore bands such as VOORHEES and NATTERERS.

The band have had consistent support from BBC Introducing North East at radio, with previous glowing press from tastemakers at NARC Magazine, Louder Than War, Birthday Cake For Breakfast, For The Rabbits and God Is In The TV Zine.
