Bristol-based experimental-rock three-piece My Octopus Mind reveal their new single ‘Wandering Alone’ released today, taken from their upcoming third studio album 'Trying To Be Normal', due November 3rd 2023.

Since their conception in 2017, the band have developed a wild form of experimental rock using balkan rhythms mixed with heavy psychedelic post-punk, wonky riffs and moments of haunting grace.

2019 saw the release of their spectacular debut album Maladyne Cave and two European tours, swiftly followed up by 2020’s Faulty At Source, championed by the likes of Prog, RTE, Loudwire, Louder Than War, BBC Introducing and Noods Radio. Post pandemic they have toured throughout the UK and Europe and are currently gearing up for the release of their third studio album Trying to be Normal.

Their upcoming single Wandering Alone was built from the bones of a mighty riff and some tasty chords cooked up by double bass wizard Isaac during Covid solitude. Combing catchy choruses with vocalist Liam's falsetto vocals soaring atop, the band create a serene backdrop for the driving verses and the crushing riff section with the Balkan themes lurking unashamedly in the foreground.  No venue has been able to capture the monstrous nature of this track. But your sound system will.

Recorded with Jake Bright at Giant Wafer Studios and  mastered by Shawn at Optimum Mastering, Wandering Alone lyrically came about through many long lockdown walks and clandestine meetings when solitary confinement was encouraged and everything looked a lot more uncertain.

Discussing the single, vocalist and lyricist Liam O'Connell explains: "Lyrically the track wasn't inspired by anything other than the millions of different thoughts running through my head on solitary lockdown walks or the myriad of random rants I'd go into over a bottle of wine in a park with Izy (Isaac). It's kind of an homage to Izy as he wrote the main musical ideas; it might have some connection to a book he lent me by Bell Hooks 'The Will to Change'."
