Esteemed Montreal Singer-Songwriter Loryn Taggart Shares Passionate Single "Walls"

• LISTEN TO + SHARE THE ATMOSPHERIC “WALLS” HERE

Producer and genre-bending singer-songwriter Loryn Taggart has ambitiously broken through the music industry. This Hungarian-Canadian musician who was raised in the Prairies, took a leap of faith at just 16 years old when she left her family home and moved to Toronto in the pursuit of a life of music.

Her latest single, “Walls,” brings a wonderful mix of Taggart’s pop and jazz background.  The infectious single was inspired by emotions brought on from living with a boyfriend in the same dwelling as his last partner.

Listen to “WallsHERE.

When I moved in with my boyfriend, I moved into a home that he had shared with his previous partner. I didn’t think much of it at first, but it was in the air. The love that they shared, the memories created, I started to drive myself absolutely nuts about the idea of the fact that there was previous love in this house. It was an odd sting of jealousy, and as someone who doesn’t really deal with jealousy it was a gross feeling. The ghosts of my boyfriend’s past lived in the walls. ‘If “Walls” could talk…’ Loryn Taggart

The entire process behind “Walls” was created in living rooms. Taggart wrote the song over a Zoom meeting with songwriters Bryn & Aryss, who live in Toronto. Taggart created a simple piano riff with some synth, beats and harmonies on Logic and sent it over to producer Howie Beck via Dropbox where they continued their creation. He’d add production to her stems, she would add vocals and harmony to his production. The files were then sent to an arranger and trumpets were recorded.

Now based in Montreal, Taggart’s talents granted her the pleasure of touring with Canadian Folk Musician Donovan Woods, and most notably in 2021, secured her the role of David Bowie on an international tribute tour highlighting Bowie’s The Berlin Trilogy era. After partnering with La Tribe Agence and Moment Factory, Taggart went on to perform the role of Bowie at renowned venues such as Place Des Arts, Canadian Arts Centre and the Amphitheatre Cogeco.

She partnered with Marcus Paquin (The National, Tim Baker) and (in collaboration with the musicians taking part in the David Bowie tour) began to record her debut album, The Lost Art of Pulling Through, which landed on the CBC Top 20 and the CKUA Top 30 albums of the year. Taggart went on to win Female Musician of the Year at the 2023 Indie Boulevard Awards where the LP was nominated as Album of the Year.
