Essex Four-Piece Where's Sammy Drop ‘Acid Rain’ on January 18th 2024 First Taste of Forthcoming EP “Sammy Went to Hollywood”
While at first glance, one might assume that Essex’s Where’s Sammy? are another modern band influenced by the influx of indie bands that emerged in the ‘00s, dig a little deeper and you’ll find that the four-piece are actually far more three-dimensional than they might otherwise appear.
Having already made a name for themselves with sold out shows across both Essex and London, not to mention gigging in further afield places such as Liverpool and Bristol, the four piece have gone from strength to strength since their inception back in 2021, and show no sign of slowing down.
Indeed, though some of their influences might well fall into the bracket of ‘00s indie, bands such as Arctic Monkeys, Razorlight and The Strokes all being points of reference, there’s elements of funk thrown in too, as well a vocal delivery that doesn’t try to hide the influence of rap and hip-hop on lead singer Dan Williams.
It’s something that’s immediately evident on forthcoming single ‘Acid Rain’. Built around a dexterous bassline, it’s three and a half minutes of lilting indie-pop that harbours a distinct funk flair. An easy going offering that manages to showcase the band’s latent talent from the word go, its snaking and spiralling verses soon converge into an airy and uplifting chorus.
The first taste of the band’s forthcoming EP Sammy Went to Hollywood, it’s the perfect woozy introduction to a band who you can expect to hear much more from over the coming year.
