EP REVIEW: The Deadnotes - Forever Outsider

To anyone who's ever felt different; like they don't quite belong, like they don't tick the boxes of society's expectations The Deadnotes' latest EP "Forever Outsider' is for you. A joyful celebration of embracing your inner weirdo and being who you want to be.

A fabulous dose of unique, DIY-ish punk rock that's sincere and genuine. Germany's The Deadnotes are here to hammer home that it's okay to not quite fit in and just be yourself!

Outsiders unite! You're in for a treat!

The title track 'Forever Outsider' is glorious and flamboyant. Catchy and addictive it's a jubilant track with a real celebratory party atmosphere. A submission to flaws and failures in the form of a feel-good tune that is assured to have you hooked. It features a children's choir on backing vocals as well as lively keys and saxophone.

'A Glade Inside the Vines' featuring the Shitney Bears mixes high attitude with high emotions as it tackles the idea of mental health struggles and the feeling your life lacks accomplishment. Dreamy psychedelia combines with crashing drums and exhilarating guitars.

'Downward Spiral' has some wonderful DIY vibes and an Americana edge as it addresses the uncertainty of loneliness, leading to pointless hookups from the desire to be wanted. It challenges exasperation at dating and how easy it is to allow people into your thoughts giving them free reign to fuck with your head. Delivered in a full of life style, it's a carnival of acceptance, getting to the point where you just stop caring!

EP closer 'Dog Years' is a massive tune with killer riffs, an anthemic exhilarating sound and chanting backing vocals. Slightly pretentious with a cute little groove. The track delves into the idea of living for the moment, spending less time caught up in thoughts and demons but also acknowldes that sometimes even small tasks can be a struggle and making a decision can feel like climbing a mountain.

The Deadnotes are different, an accessible yet niche sound. commemorating flaws and taking a look at the things that keep us awake at night. They combine a whole plethora of instruments to produce a sound unlike any other. They're a joy to the ears writing relevant and meaningful tunes delivered with the utmost sincerity. Describing themselves as too pop to be punk and too punk to be pop, the band has crafted a show-stopping style unique to them. They're a breath of fresh air. I highly recommend checking them out.
