EP REVIEW: De3ra - Swallow

DE3RA, the psychedelic blues rock maestros hailing from Music City, have unleashed their latest EP, "Swallow," and it's a musical odyssey worth diving into. This dynamic 4-piece ensemble takes you on a sonic adventure through seven tracks, seamlessly blending blues-inspired riffs, soulful vocals, and mind-bending psychedelic elements.

The EP unfolds with intricate guitar solos, powerful vocals, and a rhythm section that pulsates with infectious energy. Drawing inspiration from blues legends and psychedelic rock pioneers, DE3RA injects a fresh and contemporary vibe into their music, pushing the boundaries of sonic exploration.

Hailing from Nashville, DE3RA has become synonymous with electrifying performances, marked by soulful vocals, mesmerising guitar work, and an unwavering commitment to pushing musical boundaries. Formed in 2017 by founding members Rob Sieben, Haydn Cone, and Layton Switzer, the band embarked on a journey to tell stories through the prism of psychedelia and harmony.

Behind the intriguing name lies a tale of creative rebellion, as DE3RA emerged from a cheeky interaction with a roommate named Debra. The '3' added a touch of necessity, overcoming the challenges of establishing a unique identity in the digital realm.

At the core of DE3RA's artistic vision is a commitment to thought-provoking lyrics, intricate song structures, and a captivating ambience. Each track serves as a complex story framed by the band's psychedelic and at times, heavy, musical expressions.

"Pretty Illustrations" showcases the chaos of noise rock alongside the hypnotic swirl of shoegaze, featuring macabre vocals that passionately contribute to building intensity within the track.

Of the two standout tracks, "Water Rolls" emerges as a personal favourite. While retaining the noise rock tendencies, it offers a more accessible indie rock experience, creating an easier listening journey. The rolling guitars and infusion of bluesy, Americana vibes in this track contribute to its standout quality, providing a delightful sonic journey that resonates on multiple levels. "Swallow" is not just an EP; it's a testament to DE3RA's dedication to crafting a sonic experience that resonates on multiple levels.
