Selected previous press:
“A moreish and absurdist angular post-punk delight that adds new colours to the band’s free-form, Black Country New Road like jazz folk palette” The Sunday Times - Breaking Act
"Modern Woman's brand of tetchy abrasion feels very of the moment - they could happily nestle in amongst the likes of Black Country, New Road, Squid et al - but singer Sophie Harris is their integral point of difference, an eerie conjuror in the midst of their angular noise." DIY
"Modern Woman are an unquestionably contemporary, subcultural godsend." So Young Magazine
"Modern Woman's arresting debut single, “Offerings," recalls everything from Raincoats or The Slits to current skronky acts associated with Speedy Wunderground" Brooklyn Vegan
"A more operatic and elegant take on the post-punk wave that has been coming out of the UK over the last few years" Stereogum
“Modern Woman is, quite simply, one of the most intriguing new acts around at the moment. Flitting between the rhythmic spaceness of Young Marble Giants, the darkness of Nick Cave and the distorted blurs of Sonic Youth (and many things in between) vocalist/guitarist Sophie Harris emoted between speech and epic high notes. Was it folk reimagined? Alt-rock schewed? Pin-pointing its exact place is hard, and that is what makes this band so exciting. One to watch, no doubt.” Under The Radar
"Sharply melodic, darkly unsettling." CLASH
“Modern Woman deliver ethereal Kate Bush-style theatrics, with ‘Juniper’ providing an intriguing peak into their world.” NME
“London's Modern Woman meld proggy folk-rock and wiry post-punk into an adventurous and elastic sound all their own” Bandcamp

Based around the songwriting of frontperson and guitarist Sophie Harris, Modern Woman are rounded off by Juan Brint-Gutierrez on bass, David Denyer of percussion, violin, Synth and samples and Adam Blackhurst on Drums.
The song follows on from the London based band’s acclaimed debut EP ‘Dogs Fighting In My Dream’ and previous single ‘Ford’ which saw them win early praise and their sonic eclecticism and ferocious live show earning a diverse array of comparisons from Sonic Youth via Black Country, New Road to Kate Bush.
“‘Achtung’ was a song that I wrote around the bassline when I didn’t have any other instruments around, which when we developed as a band focused on trying to build a kind of tension and release within the music” Said Harris of the song. “Lyrically it’s a bit of a stream of consciousness about memories of childhood.”
“‘When I was in school I used to live round the corner from a friend who I had a real crush on. His parents were German, and his Dad scared me. If we were in his room and had the window open, we could hear his neighbour playing hymns on the piano. His dad also used to come in and shout at us if we were doing things we weren’t supposed to, which was often.”
“The song is made up of snapshots of images of going round to that house as there were a lot of emotions flying round. It definitely reminds me of a more innocent time”
