Accustomed to pouring lush, West Coast harmonies into the melting pot of electronic experimentation, Das Koolies make a mesmerising, mantric monument to the distilled joys of music making with the latest release Wired For Sound, raised from the treasure-strewn rock bed of their imminent debut album, DK:01.

Engineers in audio together for more than three decades, Huw ‘Bunf’ Bunford, Cian Ciarán, Dafydd Ieuan and Guto Pryce, finally confirmed that the oft-mooted, never-fully-confirmed nor realised techno-indebted Das Koolies would begin releasing music back in early-2020. With the tripwires of recent history successfully navigated, and the release of this year’s sell-out EP, The Condemned, filed as a critical and fan-favourite, the extensive, 17-track album files a key chapter in the four musicians’ explorations of song and sound.

Released this Fri 22 September 2023 on Strangetown Records in assoc. with Amplify Music, the free-spirited quartet leapt into DK.01’s recording sessions with few limits other than to sideline the acoustic guitar and to work to a beat established when they first met in the fields and warehouses of an early 1990s north Wales acid house scene.

Where previous releases, not least the album-launching Best MIndf*ck Yet, featuring friend and actor, Rhys Ifans, have stated uncompromising bombast and immediate connection with that synth-fired past, Wired For Sound’s lightness, in both weight and hue, repeated choral refrain, vocal harmonies and peals of guitars will immediately remind fans of their well-documented Furry exploits. Whilst liberating themselves from the past in many senses, the recognition of history and sense of repurpose pervades this mesmerising, ready-made set closer, appropriately cast as the perfect finale as listeners reach the end of DK.01’s winding road.

Wired For Sound was produced by Das Koolies and mixed in collaboration with MPG (Music Producer’s Guild) UK Music Producer of the Year 2022 Marta Salogni (Bjork, Depeche Mode).

Marking the end of the beginning, Das Koolies emerge from the Cardiff studio and rehearsal room to experiment further in the fresh air. Setting out on an initial run of THREE in-store appearances at Rough Trade shops to mark the album’s release, their imminent outings are confirmed as follows:

Fri 22 Sep – Rough Trade East, London

Tue 3 Oct – Rough Trade Nottingham

I'm Amy a Norfolk girl, currently residing at the seaside.

Age: eternally 21 (I’m really Peter Pan!).

By day I'm a Leaks, Condensation, Damp and Mould Resident Liaison Officer and by night I'm CRB's admin bitch, reviewer extraordinaire, point and hope for the best photographer, paperclip monitor and expert at breaking anything technical then expecting Scott to fix it!

I'm into all kinds of music the more obscure the better (my music taste is definitely better than yours 🤪😜) with my fave band being The Wonder Years.

I'm an Ipswich Town fan and have an unhealthy obsession with hedgehogs!
