Emo Band Mauve Share New Single ‘Oh My God!’
Mauve Share New Single, Oh My God!
Band Announces Signing To Really Rad Records
“It’s impossible to describe the frenetic energy that Mauve is known to produce. It’s a mixed scream of frustration and tears of joy. [...] They’re known to draw hundreds of fans to their all-ages shows, yet have just one song posted so far online.” - PDX Presents
FFO: Riley, Michael Cera Palin, Remo Drive
Genres: Midwest Emo, Punk
Portland, OR emo band Mauve brings to mind the hook-laden explosiveness of 90’s scene mainstays The Promise Ring and Rainer Maria mixed with the unmistakable twinkling guitar flourishes of more contemporary acts like Algernon Cadwallader. Wielding this dangerous combination of influences with a clear sense of responsibility, Mauve can be found screaming songs about the weather to a sold-out Mission Theater on Friday, a sold-out Blackwater Bar on Saturday, and a sold-out basement on Sunday. The band has clearly hit on a potent stylistic concoction whose demand far outstretches the maximum capacity of any local venue.
Stream "Oh My God!" now and get ready for Mauve's debut album About The Weather, releasing on July 18th via Really Rad Records.
About Mauve
If you were to look at a map, Portland, Oregon, looks pretty far away from the Midwest, but you wouldn’t know that listening to Mauve. Portland’s resident fifth-wave emo rockers formed during the pandemic and emerged from the other side with a rock-solid collection of songs in the vein of bands like Riley, Origami Angel, and Remo Drive.
Making a name for themselves playing across the Pacific Northwest in backyards, basements, and bars that the members aren’t even old enough to drink in, Mauve quickly established themselves as part of a new class of bands emerging from Portland’s bustling post-pandemic music scene. Throughout their debut album, you’ll hear jittery guitar taps and sticky vocal hooks perched atop an impressively energetic rhythm section.
Saccharine croons, cathartic group chants, and the occasional growl articulate late-teenage turmoil, transporting the listener to an alternate reality where Pacific Northwest Emo became a legitimate scene rivaling the Midwest. With any luck, there’s still time for that to happen, and when it does, Mauve will be at the forefront.
The band on the single:
“This was the first Mauve song ever written as a band. The idea came from our second jam session ever, after jamming over a much worse idea. It started with the intro riff, but rapidly evolved into part after part being jammed until virtually all of the pieces were there. Over the next month and a half, the song was fully structured, lyrics were written, and a demo was recorded in Olive's basement. The song has developed in small ways since its initial completion, however, the structure, lyrics, and general concept have remained practically identical. The song’s sporadic structure was inspired by the idea of repeating as many parts as possible, without them repeating in the same way as before.”
