(1st August) London-based British/Greek singer-songwriter & producer Eleni Drake has announced her new EP 'Above Deep Water' - out 27th September on MNRK (Jelani Blackman, Delilah Montagu). Along with the EP announcement, Eleni has revealed new single "Singing Elvis (Part II)" - the third taste of the project following "Let it Go and Let it Be" and "Daisy (Keep My Sweater)".

Arriving in the wake of glowing endorsements for her performances at The Great Escape and SXSW festivals earlier this year, new EP 'Above Deep Water' - self-produced by Eleni in collaboration with Frank Colucci (Ashnikko, Sea Girls, Art School Girlfriend) - pulls influence from acts including Billie Holiday and Mazzy Star, to Cleo Sol and Yazmin Lacey; a resolute and refreshing timelessness married to boldly modern sensibilities.

Lyrically, Eleni notes: "'Above Deep Water' opens up about the desolate feelings that come from moving through life alone. But it talks about the freedom, the understanding, the acceptance, and the revelry that comes with being alone too.”

Newly released single "Singing Elvis (Part II)" captures those intense emotions "Oh I just want to be alone / watch me run from everything and everyone" and bottles them within an arresting two minutes of freeing, breathtaking indie-soul.

Going into more detail on the inspiration behind "Singing Elvis", Eleni said:

Singing Elvis is a 2 part story, if you will. The first half of the song is all the sweet elements to a relationship, where things are going well, romance is in full bloom, the stars come out to dance “just for you two”.

Part II is where the inevitable happens: things don't go as hoped for, people change in relationships - they grow up, or grow out of the relationship, and the lyrics pretty much explain my need and desire to be alone. I felt pretty exhausted thinking ‘I'm not doing things right’, or simply not pleasing where I can, so, fuck it. Leave me alone - I'd rather be alone than have to live with constant."

Upcoming EP 'Above Deep Water' arrives following Eleni's acclaimed self-produced and self-released 2023 project 'Surf the Sun'. Balancing the curiosity and creativity of Adrianne Lenker, Faye Webster and Julien Baker, with the emotion and grandeur of Lana Del Rey, 'Surf The Sun' was a collection of songs rooted in the discovery of freedom and empowerment; an ode to the lightness and breeze that comes from freeing yourself of ties, letting go of the things that no longer serve you, and stepping into the warmth.

If 'Surf the Sun' was indeed the sun, Eleni says, her new EP is the moon. It’s the flip-side of the coin — exploring the shadows that wait for you to find them no matter where you’ve wandered, the pain that solitude eventually forces you to stare in the eye. Both of these collections are tied to each other; for Eleni Drake, both needed to exist.

To date Eleni Drake's work has received high-praise from esteemed publications including The Line Of Best Fit, CLASH Magazine, Consequence, The Independent, The Arts Desk, La Blogotheque, Wonderland Magazine and more, with over 30 million streams across her catalogue to date.
