EL NIVEN AND THE ALIBI Drop New Music Video for “I Hate LA”

Edmonton’s heavy metal hurricane EL NIVEN AND THE ALIBI drop a brand new music video for “I Hate LA”. Edited by Ryley Surian, the music video was shot at Communal Creative Studios in Red Deer, AB. Unapologetically original and uncompromising in their vision, El Niven and the Alibi make music that is equal parts poetically bittersweet, and rank rock ‘n ' roll. “I Hate LA” showcases a more intricate side of the duo with its slower grooves and slick guitar work that will have you feeling like you’ve polished off a glass of smooth Tennessee whiskey. This is just a taste of what’s to come from this duo with the release of their upcoming Unleashed EP,  streaming everywhere on December 15th. The EP is produced by Mitch Merrett (Chad Brownlee, Black Mountain Whiskey Rebellion).

“I Hate LA is a song of the night. I wanted it to sound like a wicked game-esque power ballad with lyrics, ”The spark of heart attack and vine” by Tom Waits. Being from Edmonton, I still have a romantic notion of the city of angels in all its hailed sun-soaked glory. But the brighter the light, the darker the shadows. That’s where this one comes from. Cigarette sizzles and dying neon lights flashing beneath the palms. It’s lonely, but we try and find the beauty.” explains the duo.

In September, the duo released high-energy rocker “Unleashed” (single) to streaming platforms. The single explodes with optimism, delivering a devil may-care-attitude with dangerous accuracy, and killer fuzzed-out guitar riffs. Accompanying the single is a music video that’s hilariously on brand with its hair metal flair! For fans of Rival Sons, Stone Temple Pilots, and Alice in Chains alike, the single’s deadly lines, “I’m a heavy metal hurricane”, and “Lil bit pitchfork”, El Niven and the Alibi set a heart-pounding, adrenaline-fueled pace, putting the listener at the wheel, chasing down dreams and racing runaway trains.

El Niven and the Alibi’s sound, infused with life experience and grunge rock attitude, is undeniably, and uniquely theirs. The group was conceived in a musical therapy program at a juvenile detention centre when guitarist and lead singer, Elliot Niven, met drummer, Jeff Burwash, in their youth. Their obsession with groove-laden rock and roll, combined with rebellious attitudes, and a love of being on the road has landed the band on a musical stride.

They are true blue rock and rollers, blazing a hellfire path with their own brand of Western Rock. It’s no surprise this group has already achieved impressive feats including, “Cigarettes” charting Top 30 Active Rock Canada in 2022, which garnered 130K streams on Spotify. Along with their unprecedented live energy, the group has played on stages of all sizes in Canada, the U.S.and South America with the likes of U.S.S., Big Wreck, Current Swell, and Dear Rouge.
