Dublin, Ireland post-rock quartet Overhead, The Albatross are pleased to reveal the cinematic official video for their epic new single ‘Paul Lynch’, out now on all good streaming services.

The track is the latest to be taken from their second album, I Leave You This, on 15th November 2024 via new label home Nice Weather For Airstrikes (Poly-Math, VLMV).

A near-10-minute melancholy epic shot through with rays of hopeful melody, the new single landed in PROG Magazine’s tracks of the week feature, calling it “an atmospheric mix of post-rock and proggier avenues” as the band blend their signature sound with elements of electronic production in tribute to a fallen comrade.

Commenting on the single, the band say: “Paul Lynch” is named in memory of a close friend who played an essential role in the creation of this album. Paul, a best friend of our band member David, was a constant presence in the studio during the writing process. It was his encouragement that brought us back together after years apart, and without him, this album might not have existed. This song is our tribute to his friendship and lasting impact on us as individuals and as a band. The song ends with a cathartic chant that helps us remember Paul and invites those listening to remember the people in their own lives who they have lost along the way.”

The new track follows on from the band’s AA single ‘Your Last Breath’/‘This Is Like Love’ which was released earlier this year.

A sprawling piece experimenting with elements of prog, math-rock, electronic influences, and their own already much-loved signature brand of post-rock, ‘Your Last Breath’ subtly bridges the gap between the familiar and the extraordinary within the post-rock genre, as OTA intertwine strings, electronics, and synths with the raw energy of guitars and drums.

Meanwhile, blending modern instrumentation with nostalgic influences, ‘This Is Like Love’ captures the emotional resonance of those early tracks that left a lasting impact on their musical journey.

Deriving their name from a line in Pink Floyd's 1971 Meddle album track ‘Echoes’, OTA have finally re-emerged as a quartet after a reflective hiatus following 2022’s standalone single ‘L’Appel du Vide’.

With their 2016 debut album Learning To Growl resonating deeply enough to be nominated for the RTÉ Choice Music Prize Album of the Year and named Irish Times’ Album of The Week, and a reputation for powerful and emotional live performances, second album I Leave You This promises to be both a homage to their roots and a daring leap into uncharted territory.

Fans can anticipate the familiar embrace of cinematic soundscapes and atmospheric grandeur, coupled with surprising new textures that challenge and inspire, promising a journey that's both expansive and intimately woven, signalling their quiet yet profound evolution.

The band have previously appeared at Electric Picnic, PORTALS, All Together Now, Stendahl Ireland, Castlepalooza, Indiependence, Hard Working Class Heroes and The Camden Crawl, recently completing a UK headline tour run (including a sold out London show at The Lexington) the band will announce further live dates for 2025 in due course.
