Leicester Melodic Punks’ Debut EP Obscene Released 13th October 2023

Debut Live Show 14th October @ The Soundhouse, Leicester

Leicester melodic punk newcomers Dead Nice are pleased to return with another new offering in the form of new track ‘Observer’, out now on all good streaming services.

‘Observer’ is the second single to be taken from the band’s forthcoming debut EP Obscene, set for release on 13th October 2023.

Commenting on the track, vocalist John Conyers said: “‘Observer’ is a song about coming to the realisation that you’re actually stuck doing something you don’t want to be and coming to the decision to get out. It might take a while to get there, and the leap can be scary, but close your eyes and take the leap.”

The new track follows on from lead single and debut outing ‘Occupier’ released earlier this month, which picked up support from grassroots alternative influencers at The Punk Site, Already Heard, The Scene, Click Roll Boom, and more.

Recorded at Zephyr Studios in Leicester with producer Dave Tidmarsh, all three songs on the band’s forthcoming debut EP Obscene are loosely based around the concept of an island that gets cut off from the mainland every night.

Taking influence from modern punk rock icons like AFI, Rise Against, Millencolin, and Hot Water Music, there are also traces of touchstone post-hardcore pioneers Thrice and Thursday in their progressive, technical-yet-raw punk sound.

“Conceptually, I love the way Defeater write and the storyline their songs follow,” says Conyers of his personal influences. “I've spent days reading all their lyrics and going down the rabbit hole every time, I love it. I've been listening to a lot of Red City Radio, Trophy Eyes, Polar Bear Club and Citizen recently, too. I suppose they all feed into our music in their own way.”

The quintet will be playing their debut live performance with a free entry show at The Soundhouse, Leicester on 14th October 2023 with support from Enderby and Produkty.

More info:
Built on lifelong friendships forged in Leicester’s incredible music community, Dead Nice bandmates John Conyers and Mike Manger first met playing in Leicester band Freefallfelix. Parting ways to explore separate projects, the pair kept floating the idea of coming back together to play music again.

Rather than keep their embryonic idea as yet another pub chat pipe dream, they got together with old Freefallfelix acquaintances Ed Bramford and Edd Stockton, and producer Dave Tidmarsh, to initially attempt to write and record an entire song from scratch in just a day.

One (very) long day later, Dead Nice was formed.

This is more than just a band to the quintet—it’s a group of best friends coming together and making music to continually remind them of what brought them together in the first place.
